Jimmie Burris Obituary

Jimmie "Jim" Burris

Lafayette - Jimmie "Jim" Lee Burris, 78, of Lafayette, IN, passed away on January 16, 2021 at Rosewalk Village Lafayette.

He was born on October 18, 1942 in Attica, IN, to the late Kenneth O. and Mary C. (Beavers) Burris.

Jimmie graduated from Attica High School in 1960 and also served in the U.S. Army National Guard. On May 29, 1963, he married Carol Anne Kerns in Attica, IN

Jim worked for over 37 years for Sagamore Operations in Waste Treatment at Tate & Lyle where he was also a First Responder for the plant. He previously worked for Harrison Steel in Attica. He was a member of the Dayton Masonic Lodge 103 and the Teamsters Local 1070 where he served as Secretary and Treasurer for over 20 years.

Jim had many hobbies. As a young man he enjoyed musselling on the Wabash River, he even found some pearls. Boating and fishing, wood working, computers, metal detecting, music, singing karaoke, bowling, auctions, trap shooting, and genealogy. He had a great sense of humor and loved to tell jokes but most of all he enjoyed time with his family and he loved the title grandpa.

Surviving with his wife, Carol Anne Burris of Lafayette, are his children; Steven (Jennifer) Burris of Lithia, FL, and Kevin (Patti) Burris of Dayton, OH. His sister; Judith Tippy of Arkansas, along with several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are grandchildren; Trevor (Tiffany) Burris, Collin (Brittany) Burris, Andrew (Jessica) Burris, Katie (Billy) Blakley and great grandchildren; Brooklyn, Carson, Brooklyn, Alexa, Evan, Ethan, Izzy, and his step great granddaughter, Trynity.

A Memorial celebrating Jim's life is planned for this summer and will be announced at a later date.

The family would like to thank Rosewalk Village for the care they gave Jim during his time there.

Rest in Peace Jim, you are now whole again and no longer in pain. You are now in the Lord's hands.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Miami Valley Down Syndrome Association mvdsa.org or the Dayton Masonic Lodge 103.

I don't even know where to begin. Memories flood my thoughts of all the summers I spent with my grandpa, all the times they visited us and helped me when I became a mother and all the overwhelming love and support I felt from my grandparents. I'm forever grateful he was always in mine and my kid's life's. We all adored his spunky sense of humor and his stubbornness. He always called me sweet pea and I'm devastated that I'll never hear him call me that again. I love you so much grandpa! Rest easy. Love your sweet pea Katie

Carol, I'm sorry for your loss. I lost my wife Linda the same day, so I know what you are going through.
