Justin Hecht Obituary

Justin Kyle Hecht

Battle Ground - Justin Kyle Hecht, 23, of Battle Ground, passed away on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at Journey Care Hospice in Chicago, IL. He lost his battle with cancer but won the war over death through our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Justin was born on November 13, 1995 in Lafayette to Michael and Nola (Golubiewski) Hecht of Battle Ground. Justin graduated from William Henry Harrison High School and formerly attended Purdue University studying Anthropology. He dreamed of being an archaeologist.

Justin was a lifelong member of St. James Lutheran Church. He was an Eagle Scout and had been a staff member at both Cary Camp and Camp Buffalo for several years. He was a volunteer for Tippecanoe County Emergency Management Association (TEMA) and enjoyed camping, hiking, gaming: Warhammer 40k and Dungeons & Dragons, and attending the Feast of the Hunter's Moon each year dressed as a fur trader. Justin was also active with 4-H for 7 years with a special interest in entomology and loved being a part of the Harrison marching band and Raider pep band playing the flute and piccolo.

Surviving with his parents are his sister Megan Hecht of Battle Ground; grandparents William & Myra Burley of Valparaiso and Buddy & Patricia Golubiewski of Chapel Hill, NC; aunts and uncles: Terry (Virginia) Golubiewski, Russ Golubiewski, Jill (Ben) Sink, Marvin (Phyllis) Hecht, and Mark (Leslie) Hecht; cousins: Ashley (Newman) Rodgers, Cheyenne Newman, Dylan Golubiewski, Ashley Cunningham, Carolanne Sink, Melody Sink, Brittany Hecht, Glenn Hecht, Colin Hecht, Shannon Riley, Kelsey Hecht; and girlfriend Emily Cadwallader.

Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Service will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday at St. James Lutheran Church, Pastor David French officiating. Interment will be at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens in West Lafayette.

Very very sorry for your loss. I remember Justin as an energetic, bright and funny kid during my time as assistant Scout master and during our trip to Philmont. As a parent, it is unimaginable to think of loosing my son, my heart aches at the pain you are experiencing. My thoughts are with you and may you find peace in the memory of a life well lived. -Nathan

It was a privilege getting to know Justin in high school through marching band and pep band. You could always count on Justin to put a smile on your face (especially when he came to practice with a pocket full of french fries). His attitude was contagious. God hand-picked Justin to be an angel by his side, and while I will miss him greatly, I know he is being taken care of by Our Lord. Deepest sympathies to Justin's family and sweet Miss Emily.
