Matthew Klenosky Obituary

Matthew "Matt" Tomas Klenosky

West Lafayette - Matthew "Matt" Tomas Klenosky passed away, peacefully but all too soon, on Thursday, October 18. Born on Christmas Eve 1993, he was the youngest son of David and Laurie (Kimble) Klenosky. Surviving are his parents, brother, Daniel (wife, Jessica) Klenosky, maternal grandparents, Audrey and Gene Kimble, uncles, aunts, cousins, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Irwin and Janice Klenosky and his aunt, Holli (Klenosky) Schwartz.

Although he had several health issues, Matt always took the challenges presented in stride and with grace. He had the kindest heart and greatest compassion for others; and was an active volunteer for Special Olympics of Tippecanoe County and an officer with Best Buddies Indiana - Purdue University Chapter. Matt was a member of Troop 335 and earned the rank of Eagle Scout in 2010. He graduated from Harrison High School in 2012; earned an Associate of Science from Ivy Tech in Human Services in 2015; and was due to graduate from Purdue with a BS in Organizational Leadership and Supervision this May. Since attending Ivy Tech, he worked for Wabash Center as a direct support professional, working with residential clients.

He was an active member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church where he helped with children's Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. He was known as "gentle giant" and as being "the most patient person in the world." He loved children and helping others.

Matt loved to play games, especially board games; and was a frequent patron and had been a part-time employee at Merlin's Beard in Lafayette. He also enjoyed bowling and participated in a night league through Purdue on Mondays and a Special Olympics team on Sunday afternoons.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 25, 6:30-8:30 p.m., and a memorial service on Friday, October 26 at 11 a.m., both at St. Andrew United Methodist Church in West Lafayette. Donations in Matt's memory can be made to: Special Olympics Indiana/Tippecanoe County (PO Box 4801, Lafayette, IN 47903) or St. Andrew United Methodist Church (4703 N 50 West, West Lafayette, IN 47906). Our sincere sympathy to the Klenosky family. I knew Matt as a student at KMS and we both knew him as a member of St. Andrew UMC. He had such a quiet and gentle nature and was one of the kindest young men you'd ever want to meet. Everyone who knew Matt absolutely loved him, and he will be greatly missed.

We're so very sorry,

I knew Matt while attending Ivy Tech. Often at lunchtime; as a group, we'd all go to DQ or Jimmy Johns because Matt always preferred escaping the buildings entirely for a bit each day just to socialize. After class was over we'd often go to the coffee shop Java Jo'z in which Matt would collect the stickers he got from each cup (they had inspirational messages on them), and place them on his car dash. He was also very interested in movies, many times we'd go to the theater to see any happy or comic book related movie. We also would go mall walking but mostly to FYE to look at movies. He had told us of his health problems but he never let them get him down. He just wanted to be lively and enjoy life just like anyone else. I'm gonna miss you, Bloodnofsky (he'd chuckle at that because he really liked the movie The Green Hornet).

Laurie & David, Dan & Jessica, I know words can't express the loss of Matt but know that he touched a lot of lives in his short time. When he saw me on campus or in McDonald's, he would always stop and talk and I enjoyed hearing what he was up to, but he always asked how it was going with me. My prayers are with you.

Leif and I really enjoyed watching Matt grow from a quiet yet polite boy from across the street into a truly amazing young man. He will truly be missed. Dave, Laurie and Dan, our hearts and thoughts are with you.

Hi, Matt had been on my bowling team for 3+ years from the day he signed up. Since I was the captain and league official, he always helped me do my job without asking. Plus he helped others in the league whether it was bowling or just a simple ride home.
We missed him last night! And from what I read, he was involved with a lot of voluntary work continually helping others. A great man! My heart felt condolences goes out to his family. Robert Cox-Purdue Staff and Student Bowling League at Arrowhead Bowl.

He was so nice. I enjoyed some very nice conversations with him. He told me about his hopes for the future and what he was studying. It meant a lot to me that he took the time to have these conversations with me that were over my head sometimes! He was very smart. He had so many interests and so many plans. This is so sad and I am sorry for his family, if I remember correctly he was very close to his family. . he was so good with people with special needs. So thoughtful and truly carrying of them, he really enjoyed their company. Sorry this is a bad review I'm fairly upset , I didn't know him as well as many but I do want to say that he made an impact in my life, I liked watching him with special needs people. He was always very nice to me. Fly high Matt

Matt was a Harrison High School classmate of my son, Callum. Matt was always so friendly to me when he worked at Marsh and Payless. He worked hard toward his goal of earning a Purdue degree. A week ago Sunday, Matt had a front row seat at the Jeremy Camp and Matthew West concert and thoroughly enjoyed the evening. I'm thankful I was able to visit with him one last time. Such a sweetheart! Heaven has an extra angel.

I met Matt this past year when I came on board with Special Olympics Indiana-Tippecanoe County. His sense of humor and compassionate heart will always be remembered. During bowling season this year, he noticed a few of our newer athletes were having trouble and getting frustrated with how they were playing. He went up the the athletes, introduced himself, and asked if they would like some pointers. He spent the next 15 minutes helping them improve their approach and release of the ball. The smiles on their faces as gutter balls turned into pins being knocked down - priceless!
Matt was just as encouraging as a swim coach. His athletes had fun at practice and worked hard to improve their technique.
Matt will be missed, but he will never be forgotten.
