Patsy White Obituary

Patsy A. White

Brookston - Patsy A. White, 91, of Brookston, passed away at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, April 3, 2021 at White Oak Health Campus in Monticello, Indiana.

Patsy was born March 3, 1930 in Elkhart County, Indiana to the late Joseph and Delphia (Lawyer) Miller and was a graduate of Brookston High School.

Her marriage of 70 years was to Don L. White on February 21, 1948, at her parents' home in Washington, Indiana; he preceded her in death on October 18, 2018.

Patsy's parents were deaf so she spent a lot of her childhood at the Archibald Home for the deaf in Brookston. She would help interpret for her parents when they went to town. Patsy would often tell of how, as kids, she and her sister, Sylvia, would hide under the covers with the radio so their parents wouldn't know they were listening to it and how she would hide behind a chair and "cuss" using sign language when she was mad.

Later, Patsy also went to Hawaii to interpret for a group from Goshen when they went on vacation.

Mrs. White was a long-time member of the Brookston United Methodist Church.

Patsy enjoyed sewing and oil painting. She also led the United Methodist Church Women's group in quilting and knitting baby hats and blankets for babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Patsy had been sewing and quilting since she made her first quilt at 7 years old.

Surviving are three children, Mike White (wife: Laurelle) of West Plains, MO, Diane White of Indianapolis, and Jayne White of Monticello. Patsy loved spending time with her family, especially her 4 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Grandma babysat for all of her grandkids and taught them many things, including, baking, sewing and how to weed a garden. She would even dog sit when you went on vacation. She will be greatly missed.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. (noon) Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home of Brookston. A private family funeral will be held at the Brookston IOOF Cemetery to follow; Rev. Dr. Lelan D. McReynolds to officiate.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to the Alzheimer's Association.

Patsy was very talented in what she did. I was part of the knitting group she started in 2010. We knit baby hats and donated them to the hospital. She made it a fun time to come to her house and knit for a couple of hours. I will always remember her doing that.

In loving memory of a wonderful person. We will love you and miss you always. Had wonderful times at the Tippecanoe River, when visiting with Gpa Dale and Gma Eva at their cottage beside your Dad and Mom's house. Those were the good times !!!
