Paul Butler Obituary

Paul O. Butler, 90

Paul O. Butler, age 90 of Battle Ground, formerly of Lafayette, passed away in his home at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 31, 2012. Born April 13, 1922 in Greencastle, IN, he was the son of the late Paul Glen and Olive Mickler Butler. Paul served as a U S Navy Seabee.

He married Annabelle "Ann" Smith on April 10, 1960 in Lafayette and she survives. Paul served on the Lafayette Police Department for 21 ½ years, serving as the Chief of Police for several years. He retired in 1977. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #129 Shawnee for over 50 years, the Fraternal Order of Police Arman Lodge where he served as President for 2 years, and a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #492. He enjoyed woodworking.

Surviving with his wife are his two sons, George T. Butler of Reynolds, IN and Joseph G. Butler (wife, Leslie) of Naples, FL; three daughters, Mildred Crider (husband, Don) of West Lafayette, Pamela A. Butler (Sharon) of Cincinnati, OH, and Kathi Richardson (husband, Clayton) of Battle Ground; his brother, Charles E. Butler (wife, Sharon) of LaPorte, IN; and his sister, Eunice Caskey (husband, Hugh) of Paris, IL Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons Paul and David Butler, a grandson, Paul L. Butler, a sister Martha Ader, and a brother John Butler.

Visitation 5-8 p.m. Monday at Hippensteel Funeral Home with Fraternal Order of Police, Arman Lodge service at 7 p.m. and Masonic service by Shawnee Lodge #129 at 7:30. Funeral service 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Celebrant Carla Ellis officiating. Burial to follow at Pretty Prairie Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Crohns Disease Foundation, Community Cancer Network, or Down syndrome of Greater Cincinnati (DSAGC). Hippensteel Funeral Home entrusted with care.
