Phyllis Harmon Obituary

Phyllis Jean (Ropp) Harmon

Goodland - Phyllis Jean (Ropp) Harmon, a lifelong resident of Goodland, Indiana, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 11, 2021. Born in Goodland on February 6, 1932, to the late Anthony and Daisy (Christensen) Ropp, she was the oldest of eight children. After her father died in 1940 she helped her mother with her siblings and the household responsibilities. She graduated from the Goodland High School in 1950 and went on to the Indiana Beauty Academy in Indianapolis. In November 1951 she married Donald Wayne Harmon, and he survives. Except for 13 months spent in Terre Haute, she spent her whole life in Goodland. She was very proud of her town.

She worked at the A&P grocery store for years and from 1972 to 1996, she and her husband owned and operated Harmon & Sons Pluming, Heating & Air Conditioning. She was a den mother in the Boy Scouts when her boys were young. She did ceramics at the home of Martha Marion on Monday nights for years. She was a deaconess at the Goodland Baptist Church, served on the vacation bible school. She was on the Grant Township Election Board and served as a building inspector for the Town of Goodland. She was baptized on April 5, 1943 at the Goodland Baptist Church as well as a member there until her passing.

She loved tending to her yard and her housekeeping. She was also one of the best pie bakers in Goodland, her cherry and peach pies were the best! Here family meant the world to her as she meant the world to us.

Along with her husband, she is survived by their children: Cathy & Marc Hacker, Andrews, IN, Dennis & Sandy Harmon, Brook, IN. Scott Harmon, Goodland, IN, Nancy & Mike Winger, Lafayette, IN and David & Rhonda Harmon, Goodland, IN. 10 grandchildren: Melissa & Brian Haskin, Katie & Risha Harmon, Christopher & Liz Hacker, Cristin Eccles, Ben Harmon, Betheny Harmon, Andrew & Jenna Winger, Nicholas & Sarah Winger, Stephenie Jacobs, Megen & Bill Runyon. 16 great grandchildren; Ian Haskin, Emma Hacker, Kiley & Kailey Eccles, Emily Harmon, Austin & Jackson Winger, Jacob, Sidney, Abbie & Cody Winger, Margaret, Grace & Bellamie Jacobs and Brayden & Lilah Runyon.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Beverly Good, Loma Deno, Joyce DeWeces, her brother Tony Ropp & Gerald Ropp, as well as an infant brother & Sister, granddaughter, Jacquie Harmon and great granddaughter, Jocelyn Jacobs.
