Raymond Mullen Obituary

Raymond A. Mullen, Sr.

New Port Richey, FL - Raymond A. Mullen, Sr. of New Port Richey, FL, formerly of Lafayette, IN, passed away on July 1, 2018 after an extended illness. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jeannette, and children, Joan Hill, Raymond, Jr (wife Brooke,) Timothy (wife Gay,) and Noreen Akins (husband Ken,) 7 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. His parents, Bernard and Eleanor, and his brother, Dennis, preceded him in death.

Born April 8, 1935 in the Yorkville neighborhood of Manhattan, NY, Ray served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. After being discharged from the Navy in 1956, he began a 30-year career with IBM, relocating with his family from New Jersey to Texas and Indiana and ultimately settling in Florida.

Ray was a loving husband, adoring father, and fervent sports fan. He often coached his children's sports teams and was always cheering them on from the sidelines. He played many different sports throughout his younger years including baseball, softball, hockey and football, and enjoyed a successful senior softball career in his later years after retiring to Florida.

He was a lifelong New York Giants, New York Rangers and St. Louis Cardinals fan, with Stan Musial being his favorite player. Ray's love of sports provided an avenue to connect with and teach his children and grandchildren important lessons and guidance for many of life's moments. He was an exceptional patriarch and will be deeply missed by friends and family.

I will always remember Raymond's smile when he would stop in to visit Jeannette at work. They were the couple you wanted to grow up to be like.

Sending my prayers.

Jeannette and family, very sorry to hear of Raymond's passing. I still think often of that enjoyable day we drove around photographing sites for his company. God Bless.

Jeannette, May God keep you and your family in his care. I don't know if you remember me but I worked with you at Douglas Studio and really enjoyed being around your family.
