Thoughts with the family of Vern. Over 30 years ago and not too many miles from this tragic scene, my husband's best friend was taken in the same type of accident. How puzzling that this happens so quickly and one feels so helpless. The news of this loss brings back our memories once again. May you find comfort in your treasured memories
to help in difficult times ahead. RIP,Vern.

My sincerest thoughts and prayers go out to all the family and friends who truly loved Vern. My deepest condolences for your tragic and absolutely, unexpected loss. Although its been 18 years since the last we visited, and subsequently proceeded to lose contact, simply looking at Vern's picture brings back a flood of good memories as far back as the early 70's. I clearly remember and now cherish our many deep talks of spirituality that helped guide my interests and later helped my decision to go on to formally study theology; of the great dreams and speculations of homesteading in the great openness; all the shared humor like when Putter got into it with a crazed bobcat on that full moon night and we never could figure out how I managed to clear a hot, electric fence full stride in the pitch black when I bolted toward the distant trailer light upon hearing that surprised bobcat! Most of all, you were a good friend to me, Vern. I appreciate you always treated me as a trusted friend and always a welcomed guest in your home: the precious signs of a true friend. How marveled you must now be experiencing the glories of Heaven!

I am sooo sorry Verlinda, children and the rest of Vern's family and friends for your loss....Vern sure was a good guy....one memory that I'll never forget of him was when Vern would have been 36 years old (I was 17) and my car's camshaft had serious damage. A good sized chunk of steel had worn off of it. I don't remember if I asked Vern to do it or if someone else asked him on my behalf, but Vern showed up at my house with his portable welder in tow and added steel to the camshaft. The repair had to be perfect because the timing gear had to slide back on afterwards and perfect is exactly what he did by just "eyeballing it"! I regarded him as a master welder/fabricator after watching him do that! RIP Vern
