Wilda M. Rodibaugh

Lafayette - Wilda M. Rodibaugh of Lafayette, Indiana, died April 5, 2019, at The Springs of Lafayette Assisted Living, where she had made her home for the past 18 months. She was 89 years old.

She was born in Arkansas City, Kansas, on January 26, 1930, to Earl J. and Dorothy L. (West) Hendryx.

On May 29, 1954, she married Robert J. Rodibaugh, who preceded her in death on January 11, 2004.

Wilda graduated from Zionsville High School in 1948. She attended Butler University and then transferred to Indiana University, where she received her B.S. degree in 1953. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority.

She earned a master's degree in 1966 from Shippensburg State College, Shippensburg, Pennsylvania.

Mrs. Rodibaugh taught 33 years - 25 years for the Northwestern School Corporation, Kokomo; three years at other schools in the Kokomo area; four years in Albuquerque, New Mexico; and one year at Pike Township School, Indianapolis.

Her husband Bob was a successful high school track and cross-country coach, and Wilda was very active in supporting Bob and his teams during his career at Northwestern School Corporation. Her energy, encouragement and service earned her the nickname "Mrs. Coach," by which many former student athletes still refer to her today.

Wilda maintained an upbeat, sweet and generous personality throughout her life, even through the struggle and pain of her declining health. She had an excellent memory that she used to store the many facts she delighted in learning about people and their lives.

One of Wilda's greatest joys was sailing with her son Roger. An avid bird watcher, she kept count of the various water birds they saw during their sails, prided herself on preparing delicious lunches for their outings and reveled in time spent with her son.

Wilda was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ and was blessed by her study of the Bible. She was a charter member of Faith Church of Christ, Burlington, Indiana. Upon moving to Lafayette in 2000, she was blessed through the teachings, ministry and friendships of Faith Church.

Surviving are her son, Dr. Roger J. Rodibaugh, and his wife Nancy of Lafayette; her sister, Nancy Pipkin of Zionsville; and many nieces and nephews. She leaves behind many honorary grandchildren, who along with their parents, brought much love and enjoyment to Wilda's life. She is also survived by members of her daughter-in-law's family, who loved her as their own.

Her parents and her brother Jack preceded her in death.

The memorial celebration of life will take place at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, at Faith Church, 5526 State Road 26 East, Lafayette. Visitation at the church will begin a 1 p.m. and conclude at the beginning of the service.

The body will be cremated. Burial will take place at a later time at the Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery, 62nd Street and Guion Road, Indianapolis.

Dr. Rodibaugh and family, so sorry for your loss. I enjoyed getting updates about your Mom. I met her once at the Meijer pharmacy, she was such a sweet dear woman. It's hard on those left here on earth but I'm sure she's happy to be with her husband in heaven.

Wilda and Bob were long-time friends of my parents, Jim and Verna Springer, so I was fortunate to talk with Wilda many times over the years. I remember Wilda as upbeat and smiling. Forsythia come to mind when I think of her--when I was a young bride, she told me of decorating the church for her own wedding with sprays of forsythia. How beautiful! Please accept my condolences.

I met Bob & Wilda while a manager at Lafayette Savings Bank. They were such a loving, devoted couple & we all looked forward to their visits. She missed Bob so much after his passing but always remained upbeat with that beautiful smile. I still remember her purchasing a mini cooper when they were first manufactured & how much fun she had with it. She was so cute. May you find comfort knowing she's with Bob & her Lord. God bless.

My dear sweet Wilda, I will miss our talks at The Springs. You encouraged so many. You didn't just talk about your faith, you lived it. You were always so joyful even while enduring unbareable pain. I know you will miss the family and friends you have left behind, but now you are with your beloved Savior and your loving husband, Bob. Love you Wilda

Wilda was an amazing woman who came into my life at the pool at Faith Christian Community center in 2012 and we have kept in touch. We walked the pool on afternoons and she had so many stories to tell about "her Bob" she called him and her son Roger and family. She had an amazing caring, loving, and Christian faith of anyone I have ever known. I went to visit her at the nursing home on 3/26 just before I left for a cruise. So sad she went to heaven to join "her Bob" while I was gone. I had such an amazing visit that afternoon. She was writing down how ling my Bill and mom was in Hospice care. She was trying to figure out why God hadn't taken her yet. I told her because she was an angel on Earth that still had a project to do or someone to touch one last time. My deepest sympathy to Roger and family. I loved her like a mom. I never met you but her stories I feel I did. God bless you and your family and comfort you as you cherish the many memories.

Mrs. Rodibaugh was my kindergarten teacher at Ervin. She was so kind and always remembered who I was even forty years later. That always amazed me and spoke volumes to me about how much she cared about her students. She you again in heaven!!

Sending my deepest condolence to the family and friends of Mrs. Rodibaugh. I met Wilda and Bob several years ago while performing heating and air conditioning service related work at there residence in Lafayette. I always enjoyed the little chalk board welcoming as I arrived at the front door. I worked for them nearly 20 years and dont think she ever forgot to write something on the board. I also enjoyed having conversations with her while eating an ice cream bar she always offered upon finishing up with the work. She was also very proud of her last few cars she had and some of the features like the rear camera in the scion. A lot of stories about sailing at eagle creek and stories about her children, years of teaching, and of course her beloved Bob. Thank you for entrusting me with all the work you provided me over the years. It sure was my pleasure and you will be missed! Sincerely, Mark Smith/ Smith Heating & Cooling
