Mr. Howard Billy Yearick, better known as "Bill" of West Jefferson, passed away Sunday evening, April 13, 2014, at Ashe Memorial Hospital. He was 88.
Mr. Yearick was born in Ashe County on Thursday, Sept. 24, 1925, to the late Samuel and Betty Sturgill Yearick.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired from the Jefferson Barber Shop, where he worked as a barber. He was a member of North Beaver Baptist Church.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Johnny Howard Yearick; three brothers, Johnny Yearick, James Yearick and Richard Yearick; and a sister, Virginia Card.
Mr. Yearick is survived by his wife, Willie Mae Osborne Yearick, of 65 years of marriage; a two sons, Karlton Jesse Yearick and wife, Vickie, of West Jefferson and Kenneth Howard Yearick and wife, Marylee, of Spruce Pine; a brother, Joe Yearick, of Delaware; two grandsons, Kenton Yearick and Peyton Yearick; two granddaughters, Jessica Yearick and Kendra Yearick; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Rick Miller and Rev. Wayne Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery with military rites.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Wednesday, two hours prior to the funeral service.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to: North Beaver Baptist Church Rebuild Fund, c/o Jessica Yearick, 278 Country Mountain Lane, West Jefferson, NC 28694.
Pallbearers will be Kenton Yearick, Peyton Yearick, Cody Jordan, Glenn Phillips, Jack Mock and Steven Miller.
