David Pearcy Obituary

CHARLESTON - David Anthony Hanstedt Pearcy, 50, of rural Charleston, passed away Wednesday, August 11, 2010 on his farm as a result of an accident. His Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 14, 2010 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, with Father John Titus officiating. Visitation will be Friday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Harper-Swickard Funeral Home, with a Rosary Service beginning at 8:30 p.m. Memorials in his honor may be directed to the family to establish an education trust for his children. David was born April 10, 1960 in Charleston, son of Darrell "Doc" and Barbara (Whalen) Pearcy. He married Ann Straith, September 7, 1985 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Charleston; she survives. Also surviving are their children: Shelby Margaret Pearcy and Ashley Marie Pearcy, both at home; his mother: Barbara Pearcy of Charleston; his siblings: Christina Pearcy of Dawson, IL, Brenda (Jim) Farris, Mary (Jerry) Garrett, and Elaine Johnson, all of Charleston, Theresa (Walter) Watson of Decatur, and Dan (Sharon) Pearcy of Little Rock, AR. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his father, mother-in-law: Helen Straith; and brother-in-law: Nathan Johnson. David was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, and was active in the Coles County Farm Bureau. His girls were the focus of his life, he never tired of supporting them in all their many activities, and he treasured the time he was able to spend with his family. David never knew a stranger, and always had a smile on his face. He lived and breathed farming his entire life. David enjoyed woodworking, and since his father's death, he became the rock his mom leaned on for support. He was a jokester and loved driving fast, having earned more than his share of speeding tickets.

I was just thinking of Dave the other day. I will always remember his larger than life personality, and his love for his family. Dave was a great guy. I always liked sitting with him and his family at the girls volleyball games. He was quite the jokester and I got to witness his fast driving first hand. I especially liked the stories of how he got out of a few tickets. Lol. You are missed so much Dave! Prayers for peace and comfort for your family

I was deeply touched by the news of David. At his Aunt Mary's (my Mother) graveside service 4 days prior to the tragedy, I was re-aquainted with David not knowing at first that he was my cousin. With no predisposition, I noted how well-spoken, down to earth, and 'at peace' he was - a far cry from the little terror that I remember from 40 years prior:) Since last Saturday, I've learned more about my cousin to validate those observations and find that he was a good husband, father and human being. My heart goes to Ann and the girls, whom I've never met, Aunt Barb and all of David's family. I mourn your loss.

My Dear Sweet Ann,

I am having trouble finding the words to let you know how much you are in my thoughts these last few days. We have not seen you both since before the girls were born. Last time was at the Charleston Speedway if I recall. We had alot of fun there. David was such a funny guy and I could tell the love of your life. Time, life, busy schedules and distance has kept us apart and that is no excuse. I miss you and love you. Sorry I can't be there in your time of need. OOOOXX

David was a joy in our lives. He was always teasing us on the phone when he called. Sometimes he would pretend to be the Sheriff from Coles County. Sometimes he would just talk so fast (on purpose) that we couldn't understand a word he said. He was a blessing to his family and all his friends, but first and foremost he was a loving husband to his wife Ann and a wonderful father to his daughters, Shelby and Ashley. We miss him now and forever. In Loving Memory of our David. Your Brother-in-Law and Sister-in-Law ,Thomas and Beth Carbonaro

I would like to extend my condolences to the family of Dave Pearcy. Knowing this guy was such a pleasure. He was always smiling, funny and such a devoted husband and father. I can remember when I worked at the Children's Home and he would be going to Terre Haute and was having trouble getting to his destination. He would call and ask me for directions. I have many memories of Dave, Ann, Shelby and Ashley and I will treasure them. Ann always shared pictures of her family with me and you could always see the loving family that they were. It will be very hard, but God will give them strength to get through this. Their memories will be such a great comfort to them. Rest in peace Dave...you are Home now. I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.
