Homer Ramsey Obituary

Homer Paul Ramsey

December 7, 1934 - October 11, 2025

HOMER PAUL RAMSEY, 90, of Arcola, IL passed away at 8:37 p.m., on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at his home surrounded by family.

Per Homer's wishes private family services will be held at the Edwards Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Arcola Sports Boosters.

Homer was born on December 7, 1934, in Hindsboro, IL, a son of Clyde Lemuel and Neva Belle (Thomas) Ramsey. He married Lena Beverly Biggs on April 15, 1954, in Charleston, IL.

He is survived by his wife Lena of 71 years; three daughters: Marsha Coleman and her husband, Steven of Greencastle, PA, Pam Conlin and her husband, Larry of Neoga, IL and Sherry Lyons and her husband, Tom of Arcola, IL; six grandsons: Scott Coleman and his wife, Jen, Sean Coleman and his wife, Lindsay, Ryan McNamer and his special friend: Jess, Michael Lyons, Jeff Lyons and his wife, Randi, Patrick Lyons and his wife Mayra; three step-grandchildren: Casey Conlin, Chase Conlin and his special friend, Sabine, and Kristen Conlin, and fourteen great-grandchildren: Alannah, Dawsen, Aubrey, Maybree, Lincoln, Emerson, Sullivan, Brandon, Mady, Kayla, Max John Homer, Adellai, Lucas, Patrick and Samuel.

Homer was preceded in death by his parents, seven siblings, Bessie Miller, Louise Pierson, Naomi "Toots" Harvey, Granville "Bud" Ramsey, Bonnie Mason, Johnnie Ramsey, and Frances Wells.

Homer was a 1953 graduate of Arcola High School. Homer helped on the family farm until he entered the Masonry Trade in 1955. He attended a Technical School in Chicago, IL where he learned how to read blueprints and then he did an apprenticeship. He went to work for Coy Masonry Company, helping to build the gymnasium and the addition to the Arcola High School in 1955. After that he helped on many other gym projects, Churches and other big masonry jobs.

He owned and operated his own masonry business from 1961 to 1999, Ramsey and Biggs Masonry. After he retired, he helped his daughter, Sherry and her husband Tom in their cabinet Shop.

Homer was a member of St. John's the Baptist Catholic Church in Arcola.

Homer and Lena were blessed on their 70th wedding anniversary with a trip to Nashville, TN by their daughters and their husbands. They arranged a visit to the Grand Ole Opry as they did on their honeymoon 70 years prior.

Homer's grandsons have fond memories of helping in the masonry business while growing up and learned a lot about life from working alongside their grandpa.

Homer's favorite thing to do was simply spend time with his family. He was always a big fan of his grandkids and great grandkids, attending most of their sporting events or anything else they were involved in. He even traveled to Pennsylvania, he was very proud of all of them.
