Janet Brannon Obituary

Janet Sue Brannon

April 10, 1941 - March 17, 2026

CHARLESTON - Janet Sue Brannon, age 84, of Charleston, Illinois, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at Marshall Rehabilitation and Nursing.

Janet was born on April 10, 1941, in Charleston, the daughter of Wayne and Grace (Thompson) Hood. On July 9, 1961, she married the love of her life, Marvin LeRoy Brannon, in Humboldt, and together they shared 64 wonderful years of marriage.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Marvin Brannon of Charleston; two daughters, Kim (Chad) Storment of Charleston, and Mindy (Sean) Holladay of Charleston; four grandchildren, Dustin Flynn, Cody Storment, Preston (Casey) Storment, and Taylor Holladay; one sister, Carol (Dave) Siebert of Charleston; one sister-in-law, Stacy Hood of Patoka; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wayne and Grace Hood; and her brother, Gary Hood.

Janet was a 1959 graduate of Charleston High School. She later attended Eastern Illinois University, where she earned her master's degree in education. Janet dedicated 27 years to teaching elementary school in Charleston before retiring in 2001. Her passion for education and her students was evident throughout her career, and during the 2000 to 2001 school year she was honored with the Teacher of the Year Award in recognition of her dedication and love of teaching.

Janet was previously a member of the Methodist Church in Humboldt and later attended the Church of God in Charleston for many years. She was also a member of a local Bunco club and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #1388. Janet enjoyed cross-stitching, antiquing, and shopping, and especially loved traveling with her girlfriends to gem shows across the country, visiting places such as New York, Arizona, and Washington. Above all, she treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren and family.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Monday, March 23, 2026, at Adams Funeral Chapel. A memorial service will follow at 12 p.m. with Pastor Michael Stewart officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Thomas Lincoln Cemetery in Lerna, Illinois.

As a struggling first year, first grade teacher Janet came to my rescue and assisted me with moral support and practical guidance in helping me provide my precious charges with sound instruction and a shoulder to cry on as I grew as a teacher. She is always in my thoughts and will continue to be as one of my many mentors and friends.
