Jerome Massey Obituary

NEWTON - Jerome Daniel "Corndog Jerry" Massey, 73, of Newton died at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday (March 28, 2012) at the Marion VA Medical Center in Marion. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Blake-Buchanan Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Stephen Willis officiating. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton with full military rites by the Jasper Post No. 20 American Legion. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today (April 2) at the funeral home. Mr. Massey was born on July 3, 1938, in Bagota, the son of Eugene and Josephine (Rauch) Massey. He married wife Kay Massey; she later died. Survivors include two sons, Jerome Massey of Newton and Shannon Massey of Casey; three brothers, Bob Massey of Newton, Max Massey of Kinmundy and Keith Massey of Dubis, Ind.; three sisters, Rita Koontz and Carolyn Woods, both of Newton, and Marietta Kerner of Ypsilinti; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter and one brother. Mr. Massey served in the U.S. Army. He was known by many as "Corndog Jerry" for working his concession at many area events. He was a member of the Jasper Post No. 20 American Legion and the VFW Post No. 7537. Memorials may be made to the V A Medical Center Community Living Cemetery.
