I have not forgotten about you. You may not remember me, but you were a great person. RIP

October 17, 2012

Six years seems like a lifetime ago. I will never forget how you hugged me when I took you to the airport in Indy to leave for training in California. The day you returned to see Rylie was also etched in my memory and what you said to Caryn when she handed you your son to hold. How proud you were of Rylie the night you cared him home from Grammy's, walking by yourself to be with him. I will always love you as my son.

Love, Chuck

I went through boot camp with Josh. I went through SOI with him. I can remember the evening he called, after VOLUNTEERING to deploy to Iraq. I was driving home. The unit I was attached to had asked that weekend for volunteers as well..... but I never put my name in. When he asked why I didn't, I told him my time would come and I would be there to answer the call. Every year I look back and wonder if I could have changed the past. All I want to say is Josh has not been forgotten and as long as I live he never will. He was always the one to keep in touch. Even asked me to attend his wedding prior to deployment, but I was unable to. I regret not making the effort to be there. Josh is the true definition of a Hero and paid the ultimate sacrifice. I can only hope that what I have done is a fraction of the price of what he has paid, to allow me to still be here today. I love you and will always be here for your family. Semper Fi

I have never met anyone in Josh's family, but I did go to boot camp and SOI with him. There was something about him that drew you to him. I remember on our last day of SOI that Josh said it just didn't seem fair that after training with everyone for essentially 5 months, that us reservists got to go home, while our friends headed out to war. I felt the same way and understood the conviction and contradiction in his heart. I wished it would have been possible to get to know Josh better because you could just tell that he was a great man. So I was very surprised and excited to run into him while training for Iraq. As it turned out, he got augmented to my battalion and we were getting deployed together. I can't adequately express the shock and sadness I felt when I heard the news and I know it's only a proportion of what his family and close friends felt. I wanted to express my sincerest comfort and to say that I will never forget him or the sacrifice his family and friends have made.

Joshie! I think of you all the time. You are a constant on my mind and will always be in my heart. There are so many times that I think I see you and I do a double take, but it is just someone who looks like you. It makes me sad because then I remember...

Josh it's been a long time since I've written but you are never far from my thoughts. You have no idea how missed you are. Your mom has become a second mom to me. She recently cried at the news that I was gonna be deployed to Afghanistan, and granny wrote and told me to tell the navy they couldn't take another of her boys. Your family has truely been amazing to me even with you gone. I speak to mom often and we always share stories and talk about how much we miss you. You will never be forgotten I promise. Love and miss you bro!

Josh
I can't believe that it has been this long since you left us. You would be proud of Rylie he is such a great joy and I love him with all of my heart. He is such a joy to have as my grandson and I will make sure he knows everything there is about him Daddy. Just watching him with his actions lets me know you are here with us keeping watch. Love you and miss you every day. Still remember the hug you gave me when I took you to the airport in Indy. You are and always will be my Son.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Joshua, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Dear family of Cpl. Joshua M. Hines,

We want to say thank you. We understand that no words can be adequate for your sorrow. We certainly do not want to intrude upon your privacy. As Americans we want you to know that we deeply appreciate the ultimate sacrifice your loved one has made for all of us. We also would like for you to be aware that with this letter comes our special concern and prayers for you. We are all safer because young men and women who love their country, and know the value of a free nation, are willing to put themselves in harms way, and lay down their lives to keep this nation free and safe for all of us.
Your sacrifice is also very great. We know that we can give little comfort; however, the knowledge that your loved one did not die in vain, but died in the service of our country, gives each of us a noble example of the value of life, and the responsibility of freedom. We hope this will bring pride and comfort to you.
We at Gethsemane Church believe that there is purpose to life. We send this letter with our deepest appreciation for the greatest of sacrifices, you and your loved one have given to this country. We know it is not enough, but please allow us to assure you that your loved one is not forgotten.

Very Sincerely

Frank G. Noyes

Josh,
We all miss you! We all love you! I was back visiting Loren, Beth and the girls this weekend before I went up to Chicago for a Cubs game opening week. I stopped and left some flowers at your grave for you. I left some pink roses, orange and yellow daisies and some of those purple flowers you'd always give me when I was bummed out or for my birthday. I think about you and miss you everyday. Just keeping watching over me and guiding me. I love you and miss you.

Josh, rest in peace my friend.

I enjoyed the privilege of coaching Josh in high school football. Josh was an outstanding young man with a heart of gold. Josh also helped me coach a girls youth softball team and we had a great time. We had no clue what we were doing but we certainly had so much fun. After high school, Josh came to work for me in a small vending machine business in Ventura Ca. Josh was at work every morning at 5:30 AM and never missed a day. There were times where we sat in the warehouse, shared old football stories, and just cracked up re-enacting some of the sideline antics displayed on Friday night.

I'm saddened every day by your passing however, comforted knowing you’re with our heavenly father, Jesus Christ. So rest in peace my friend and we will always keep you and your family in our prayers.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

“Paid in Full”
In Honor of The War Against Terrorism’s Fallen and Injured Marines

Marines through and through, they paid the price
Six thousand miles away, we live the life
For which they paid with their blood, spirits and bodies
We will never forget what they paid in full

We hope and we pray that somehow their loved ones find comfort
In God, in the flag, in the memory of their loved ones’ bravery
They’re gone now but we see them still…proud, strong, willing
Covering each other’s backs… courageous, moving forward

What kind of love did they have for us to be willing
To give it all for the Black, White, Jew, Christian, Muslim?
We don’t comprehend but we honor you now and forever
You are Our Marines…some living…some not
Forever in our minds we will cherish your lives

Lives too short yet immortal they’ll be
Highest brotherhood of the few, the proud
They stand at attention, and we gaze with awe
Some know their names not, but our admiration for them
Flows limitless within us, between us

They sacrificed their limbs or their lives
Freedom still rings, a soft sound across the miles
It tolls slowly; all of creation takes note
Of the lives that were lost for people unknown

Out of sight but not lost; forever among us
The starched blues marching straight
Toward the place where we will meet them
Many years from now…how we loved them…
Well done beloved Brothers and Sisters…You’ve paid it in full
Always Faithful Marines, You Have Paid it in Full

My family and I are praying for you and your family during this difficult time. We send our deepest empathy as we lost our Marine on 11/30/05 in Fallujah. We are comforted to know that our Marines are serving their country with such honor and bravery. We are so proud of our Marines and all of our other service men and women for all that they have done and continue to do to keep us safe and to give us the freedom we have that so many take for granted.
They are true Heroes and need to always be remembered for their selflessness and sacrifice to better our world. We will forever be united in the loss of our heros. We are so sorry for your loss and hope our words will ease some of the pain, and maybe fill some of your emptiness.

To the Hines family,
I grew up with Josh & Jerrod, and loved to play hide and seek at night on our familiar street Lakspur DR. May God be there for his family in their time of deepest needs, God couldn't have chosen a better person, it is just unfortunate that it had to happen so soon in his life. I am praying for your family, may God be with you all.
Sincerely, Jessica & Travis Ferrell
