Juanita Gordon Obituary

MATTOON - Juanita May "Nita" Gordon, 79, of Mattoon, IL passed away at 10:18 a.m. on Thursday, April 15, 2010 at her residence. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 17, 2010 at the Lake Land Church of Christ, 3480 US Highway 45 in Mattoon, IL. Rev. David Ferguson will officiate. Burial of her ashes will be in the Jack Oak Cemetery in Greenup, IL. Visitation will be held one half hour prior to the memorial service at the church. The Edwards Funeral Home is assisting with funeral arrangements. Nita was born on November 3, 1930 in Shiloh Township in Edgar County, IL. She was a daughter of Ralph and Ruby (Short) Edwards. She married Max Gordon; he passed away on November 14, 1994. She is survived by one son, Steve Gordon and his wife Raye of Trilla, IL; one daughter, Kathy Giberson and her husband James of Cloverdale, IN; three grandchildren, Heather Lucas and her husband Michael of Paducah, KY, Jason Giberson of Cloverdale, IN and Chrissy Baker and her husband Larry of Greencastle, IN; two step-grandchildren, Stephanie Shaffer-Williams and her husband Dana of Pleasant View, TN and Shay Shaffer and his wife Tasha of Greenup, IL; five great-grandchildren, Becky, Brandon and Tabbitha and Coleton and Caiden; five step-great-grandchildren, Nick; Shelby, Shaylee and Tyler, and Noah; one brother, Kenneth Edwards and his wife Kay of Toledo, IL and one sister, Lucille Owen of Greenup, IL. Nita retired from General Electric in Mattoon, IL. She loved to sew. She was a seamstress for as long as most can remember. She has done alterations for Jack and Bill's, Helen Montgomery's, The Thread Shed, Central National Bank and many others. Nita also enjoyed working with many elderly people through Coles County Council on Aging. She was a member of Lake Land Church of Christ.
