Lowell Wellbaum Obituary

JEWETT - Mr. Lowell Dee Wellbaum, age 80 of Jewett, IL passed away at 4:40 p.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 7, 2011 at the Jewett Community Church in Jewett, IL with Ray Blair officiating. Burial will be in the Jewett Cemetery in Jewett, IL with full military rites by the Cumberland Veterans Association. Visitation will be held 5:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 6, 2011 at the Bishop Funeral Home in Greenup, IL. In loving memory memorials may be made to the donor's choice. Lowell was born on January 21, 1930 in Edgar County, IL the son of Oscar and Ruth (Trostle) Wellbaum. He married Nita Claire Dappert on July 13, 1956 and she preceded him in death on May 26, 2009. Lowell graduated from Greenup High School in 1947. He was a member of the Hidalgo Independent Christian Church in Hidalgo, IL, and to Gideons. Lowell served over 30 years on the Grove Township Board of Trustees and worked at Young Radiator in Mattoon for over 30 years. Lowell was an Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict and a deputy Sheriff of Jasper County. Lowell had many hobbies such as fishing, playing cards, knitting, collecting donkeys, and was always willing to help anyone with a need. He especially loved watching his grandchildren in many sporting activities. Lowell is survived by: 3 sons, Aaron, Kurt and Todd Wellbaum. Aaron is married to Kathy Esker and they have 4 children, Randy, Russell, Jordan and Nikki and reside in Teutopolis, IL. Kurt is married to Nancy Warfel and the have 2 children, Joseph and Bethany and they reside in Springfield, IL. Todd is married to Katrina Jones and they have 1 daughter Payton and they live in Atwood, IL. 3 brothers, John Wellbaum of Jewett, IL George Wellbaum of Greenup, IL and Carl Wellbaum of Jewett, IL. 3 sisters, Virginia Titus of Toledo, IL Lenora Quick of Jewett, IL and Diana Lewis of Greenup, IL. Lowell was preceded in death by his wife, parents and brothers Warren and Hugh Ross.

I will always remember Lowell's smile. So thankful to know Lowell and his testimony for the Lord. We are praying for the family in this difficult time. Look to the Lord for the strength you need during your time of sorrow.
