Luana Louise Scott

December 24, 1934 - October 28, 2025

Luana Louise Scott, age 90, of Mattoon, entered her heavenly home and joined her loving husband, Charlie, on October 28, 2025, surrounded by her four children and son-in-law.

Mass of Christian Burial honoring her life will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 320 North 21st Street, Mattoon, IL 61938. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday at Schilling Funeral Home, 1301 Charleston Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938.

Lu was born on December 24, 1934, in Mattoon, Illinois, the daughter of Gordon Francis and Irma May (Block) Miller. She married the love of her life, Charles Edward "Scottie" Scott, on May 14, 1955. He preceded her in death on August 26, 2015.

Survivors include her four children, Cheri Scott of Mattoon, Illinois, Doug (Connie) Scott of Mattoon, Illinois, Teri South of Rock Falls, Illinois, Sandy (Greg) Christensen of Villisca, Iowa; five grandchildren, Heather South (Marcus Thompson), Joey South, Brandon Drummond, Tony (Rachael) South and Aurora Scott; eight great-grandchildren, Khassid Thompson, Brennan Thompson, Connor South, Cooper South, Kierra South, Marlee Thompson, Sienna Thompson, Colson South and Bradley Drummond; brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Ann Miller; her unwavering Sunday evening companion, special niece, Nancy; several other nieces and nephews and great-nieces and -nephews; wonderful caregiver, Beth; loving canine companion, Ellie; and her many special cats and chickens.

In addition to her husband, Lu was preceded in death by her parents; in-laws, Clarence and Lillian Scott; sister and brother-in-law, Fran and Dale Whitley; and brother and sister-in-law, Darrell "Bud" and Wanda Miller.

Lu began her career as a secretary at Meadow Gold in 1952 and became a full-time housewife and mother in the spring of 1956. Lu worked side-by-side with her husband, Charlie, in the family business, Scott's Garage, from 1961 until her retirement. After retirement from their business, Lu and Charlie travelled the countryside near their home, reading water meters for Clearwater Service Corp for 10-plus years.

In earlier years, Lu was deeply involved in Girl Scouts and was the neighborhood chairman for the Mattoon Girl Scout troops. She also was chairman of the Scouts' cookie drive for a number of years. Lu was an avid bowler and held the title of League champion for three consecutive years. Lu was an animal lover and had numerous ponies, chickens, dogs, and cats throughout her life.

Most of all, Lu cherished spending time with her family and thoroughly enjoyed playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Memorial donations in her honor may be given to the Coles County Animal Shelter, 6818 North County Road 1120 East, Charleston, IL 61920, or a charity of the donor's choice. Online condolences may be expressed at www.schillingfuneralhome.net.
