March 27, 1934 - April 12, 2025
Marilyn Jean Smyser, age 91, of Mattoon, passed away on April 12, 2025 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Friday, April 18, 2025 at Schilling Funeral Home. Graveside services honoring her life will follow at 12:30 p.m. on Friday at Roselawn Cemetery.
Marilyn was born on March 27, 1934 in Olmsted, Illinois the daughter of William and Pearlie Ann (Pulliam) Roberts. She married David Loran Smyser on September 4, 1954. He preceded her in death on February 24, 2022.
Survivors include her daughters, Debra (Don) Hilligoss and Diana Smyser (Shane Perry); grandchildren, Celena (Derrick) Sims, Clint (Rachel) Hilligoss, Danny (Emily) Hilligoss, Ciara (Justin) Hooker and Jesse Smyser of Mattoon, IL; great-grandchildren, Madielynn Crowe, Andrew Sims, Ava, Tatum, Amelia and Tyson Mendoza, Hannah Hilligoss, Leah Hilligoss, Vivienne Hilligoss and Roman Beliz.
In addition to her husband, Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and siblings; and great-grandson, Tyson Mendoza Hooker.
Marilyn retired from General Electric after over 35 years of dedicated service. She will be remembered as a kind and selfless person who would do anything for anyone, with a smile on a face. Marilyn loved golfing and bowling, but most of all she enjoyed playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew her.
