Robert Banning Obituary
December 30, 1949 - February 5, 2026
CHARLESTON – Robert Wayne Banning, 76, of Charleston, passed away Thursday, February 5, 2026 at SBLHC.
Bob was born December 30, 1949 ay Wyandotte, Michigan, son of Cyril W. and Kathryn A. (Elliott) Banning. He married Karen Sue Riddle, April 9, 1968 at the Neoga Pentecostal Church; she survives. Also surviving are their sons: Rob Lee Banning and wife Niki of Union, MO and Kevin Wayne Banning and wife Brooke of Charleston; grandchildren, Brooke Dundee of Charleston, Dallas Warner of Glen Carbon, IL, Eoin Dahlke of Charleston, Finola Dahlke of Charleston, Kenna Hilbert of Union, MO, Chase Quintos of Phoenix, AZ, Peyton Wilson of Union, MO, and Josie Raftery of Sahuarita, AZ; great-grandchildren, Carson Newell of Charleston, Beau Dundee of Charleston, and Quinn Warner of Glen Carbon, IL; and one sister, Carla Sue Becker of Neoga. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father, Henry Mann, brother, James L. Banning, and sister, Donna K. Dingess.
Bob was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He graduated from Lake Land College. Bob worked in the grocery business for decades. He started out at Eisner, Jewel, Wilb Walker, and County Market. Most of those years, he was in management. He retired from Eastern Illinois University.
