Rowland Gilbert

MARTINSVILLE - Rowland Gilbert, 86, of Martinsville died at 3:13 a.m. Tuesday (June 1, 2010) at the Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Ind. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Greenwell Funeral Home in Martinsville with the Rev. Billie Ray Ulrey officiating. Burial will be in the Green Moss Cemetery in Clark County. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. today (June 2) at the funeral home. He was born June 16, 1923, in Cleone, the son of Steward Lawson Gilbert and Pauline Estee Burdette Gilbert. He married Gwendolyn Clements in 1946; she survives. Other survivors include one son, Rick Gilbert of Martinsville; one daughter, Sharon Johnson of Casey; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters. Mr. Gilbert was a past member of Southern Illinois Horse Pullers Association and Land of Lincoln Horse Pullers Association.
