Verna Dean Ochs

Verna Dean Ochs, age 91 of Mattoon, IL passed away Monday, January 26, 2026, at Copper Creek Cottages.
A funeral mass in her honor will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 31, 2026, at The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 320 N. 21st Street, Mattoon, IL 61938. The committal service will be held at 2:30 PM at Westlawn Memorial Park, Newton, IL 62448. The visitation will be held the same day from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938.
Verna was born February 16, 1934, in Newton, IL to the late Everett V. and Gladys (Jackson) Birk. She married Maynard J. Ochs on October 16, 1954, at St. Thomas Church in Newton, IL; he preceded her in death on May 30,2003. She is survived by her grandchildren, Nichole Colvin of Benton, IL, Brock Ochs of Charleston, IL; twelve great-grandchildren: Tate, Raylyn, Shelbie, Wade, Nathan, Jace, Jaxson, Nolan, Kayson, Paytin, Iolana, Ellynor; two great great- grandchildren; nephew, Michael Birk and wife Cheryl of Grove City, Oh; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her son, Monte Ochs and one brother, Warren Birk.
Mrs. Ochs was employed at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center. She attended the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mattoon, IL. In her younger years, Verna enjoyed traveling with her husband and being an active mother in her sons' activities. As years passed, she loved the time spent with her growing family. Her hobbies included gardening and being devoted to her puppies.
