Carol Bauer Obituary

Carol Ann Bauer (nee Hagood) entered peacefully into eternal rest on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, in St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 81. Carol was born and spent her early years in Pocahontas, Arkansas. She then moved to St. Louis and completed her high school education at Roosevelt. Not long after graduating, she met her future husband, Jim, while they both worked at the old Frisco Hospital on Laclede. Jim and Carol married and raised their four children in Dogtown, all of whom graduated from St. James the Greater Catholic School, where she spent countless hours volunteering her time in many capacities, including the Athletic Association, PTA, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and the Homecoming Committee. After being a homemaker for many years, she attended Forest Park Community College where she earned her associate's degree in nursing in 1989. She worked at Barnes-Jewish Hospital for 22 years, retired, then returned to work at St. Mary's Hospital for an additional seven years. Her 29 years as an RN were all spent on the night shift. This RN was always "a night owl," even as a child, so working the night shift for so many years suited her well. She loved spending time with family and friends and enjoyed MANY games of BINGO, along with pull tabs and scratch-offs. She never missed her Thursday night BINGO in support of the Mehlville High School Band. She was a die-hard Cardinals fan through all the good and bad, ups and downs, wins and losses. Carol's greatest joy in life was her children and grandchildren. She enthusiastically supported them as they participated in sporting events and school activities. Carol will be remembered for her generosity, encouragement, love, support, words of wisdom, humor, and quick wit. These memories will last a lifetime. Carol was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jim, her parents, Gilbert and Bessie Hagood, and her grandson baby Michael Patrick Kotyk II. She was the loving mother of Tim Bauer, Mary (Karl) Henson, Jennifer (Jeff) Rayborn, and David (Laura) Bauer; cherished grandmother of Carolyne, Justin, Jordan, Connor, Colin, Jesse, Jason, Joseph, Oliver, Ella, Andrew, Brody, Ethan, Moriah, and Jayla; dear sister of Jerry (the late Peggy) Hagood, Bob (Linda) Hagood, and Frank (Karen) Hagood; dear sister-in-law of Thomas Bauer and the late Richard Bauer. Visitation will be on Saturday, September 20th from 1:00-3:00 pm at McNabb Funeral Home with the service will begin at 3:00 pm. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Carol's memory to the BackStoppers or The Muscular Dystrophy Association would be greatly appreciated by her family.
