Alvin Douglas Obituary

LAKE CITY - Alvin I. Douglas, 68, of Lake City, was called home by the Lord on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at Lakeside Nursing Center in Lake City. Alvin was born July 8, 1955, in Lepanto, to the late John and Nona Caudell Douglas.

He was the eighth child in a family of what would become a total of nine boys. He grew up in Caraway where he worked alongside his siblings in the cotton fields. Alvin cherished his childhood memories of his mother's cooking, especially the aroma of her pinto beans simmering over a wood stove.

He also greatly appreciated fast cars, the open road and thunderstorms. Alvin dreamt of becoming a truck driver from an early age and was proud to achieve that goal as he spent 25 years crisscrossing the United States in a variety of 18-wheelers, developing an extraordinary internal GPS along the way that enabled him to navigate the country's roads by memory with ease.

He was also a skilled mechanic and could fix any car before the era of electric vehicles. He had a great love for music, particularly the songs of George Jones, Gary Stewart, John Anderson, Earl Thomas Conley, Ozzy Osbourne and Fleetwood Mac. His all-time favorite song was "Landslide" by Fleetwood Mac.

Alvin embraced a nomadic existence and left an indelible impression on all who knew him. He was immensely blessed with the unwavering support of his brothers who stood by him throughout his numerous adventures as a testament to the bonds of brotherhood.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, James Douglas and Raymon Douglas, two half brothers, Doyle Morgan and George Douglas, two half sisters, Geneva Petty and June Wise, two nieces, Tracy Gordon and Markie Collins, and a nephew, Alan Walth.

Alvin is survived by his three children, Jonathan (Becky), Chad (Anitra) and Allison (Tony), six brothers, Charlie (Nadean), LeRoy (Mattie), Edwon, Joe (Judith), Floyd (Shirley) and Troy (Betty), and five grandchildren.

Alvin also leaves numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Alvin's family is honoring his wish for cremation with a memorial located in the Caraway Cemetery in Caraway. A celebration of life will occur at a later date.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Howard Funeral Service of Leachville.
