HARRISBURG - Carty Richard Rieathbaum, 81, of the Harrisburg Central community in Poinsett County passed from pancreatic cancer on Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2023, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House. He was born Feb. 5, 1942, in Marked Tree.
Carty was a heavy equipment operator specializing in dragline, crane and track hoe excavation. He was an avid gardener, excellent dance partner and enthusiastic fisherman, staying on the water for hours whether they were biting or not. Opening day at Lake Wapanocca was considered a holiday in his house.
Carty was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Bertha Rieathbaum, nine siblings and his son, Richie.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Jim Dunton of Jonesboro; granddaughter, Hannah and her husband Braden Camp of Ward and grandson, Ean Dunton of Jupiter, Fla.; beloved and devoted friend, Shirley McDaniel; one sister, Katherine (Austin) DePriest; and a host of nieces and nephews.
As a believer in Jesus Christ, a reunion in heaven of loved ones who have gone before and those who are to come was his hope.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Friday at Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro. A private graveside service officiated by Darrell Miller will be held in Holly Springs Cemetery at Harrisburg.
Please consider the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House for lasting memorials.
