MAYNARD - Derek Lee Waddell, 31, of Maynard passed away Monday, April 18, 2022, at West Tennessee Healthcare in Dyersburg, Tenn.
He was born April 2, 1991, in Pocahontas to Ligie Jr. and Kim Barber Waddell. He was a graduate of Maynard High School, completed the licensed practical nursing and registered nursing programs at Black River Technical College, earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Arkansas State University, and his Master of Science in Nursing at Harding University.
He served as a family nurse practitioner at Access Medical Clinic and as a clinical/lab nursing instructor with Arkansas Northeastern College.
Derek had an infectious smile and a giving heart. He loved to help people and was devoted to his family and his patients. He was an avid Cardinal, Razorback and Duke fan, and loved dogs and children.
Derek was preceded in death by his grandparents, Gene Barber, Bill and Janice Harrington, and Ligie Waddell Sr., and by his great-grandparents, Roosevelt and Geraldine Jones.
Derek is survived by his parents, Ligie Jr. and Kim Waddell of Maynard; brother, Ryan Waddell of Little Rock; maternal grandmother, Minnie Barber; uncles and aunts, Randy (Darice) Barber, Diane (Wes) Patterson, Kristi (Gary) Hill, Mark Waddell, Misty Cobb, Hilda Jones and Phyllis (Bob) Spaw; cousins, Nathan (Stacy) Barber and children, Alicia (Kyle) Gardner and children, Jessica (Zach) Nead and children, Whitney Martin and child, Jonathan (Katie) Boyer and child, Jake Hill, Heather (Andrew) Weller and child, Sara (Zack) Gray, Mark Waddell, Tiffany Cobb and children, Greg Cobb and child, Logan (Tara) Spaw and children, Magen (Lance) Brown and children, Molly Patterson, Jessica Patterson, Tiffany (Charlie) Rice and children, Ricky Jones and child, and Sherry McCoy and children; and many other extended family members and friends.
All services will be held in the chapel of McNabb Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 this evening, April 21. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday with Joshua Dement officiating and honors will be rendered by the Nurses Honor Guard.
Burial will follow in Maynard Cemetery.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Randy Barber, Nathan Barber, Kyle Gardner, Kaylon Kimble, Jake Hill and Mark Waddell.
Honorary pallbearers are Isaac Gardner, Josh Brooks, Markie Waddell, Logan Spaw, Greg Cobb and AJ Dauck.
