Dorothy Murphy

HERNANDO - On Nov. 16, 2025, Dorothy Joan Murphy, formerly of Jonesboro, 85, peacefully went to be with her Lord in heaven, surrounded by family. She was born on Jan. 26, 1940, in Minneapolis, Minn., to Ken and Emma Smith. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 34 years, Dan Wayne Murphy; daughter, Lisa Stephens; grandson, Daniel Murphy; two sisters, Darlene Chambers and Diane Dahl.

Dorothy enjoyed doing cross-stitch, diamond dots, and sitting on her front porch drinking coffee with her loving puppy, Braxton. She retired from Sam's Club in Jonesboro after many years of service.

She leaves behind two children, Linda Rines and Keith Murphy (Linda); her grandchildren, Megan Galbreath (Brandon), Kat Murphy (Melvin), Jessie Murphy, Justin Murphy, Bobby Simmons, and Jeremy Murphy; son-in-law, Ralph Stephens, as well as seven great-grandchildren.

A service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 22, at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home Chapel, starting at 2 p.m. with Reverend Graig Stull officiating. Visitation will precede the service from 12 to 2 p.m. Burial will be in Nettleton Cemetery.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Darrell Rines, Brandon Galbreath, Ralph Stephens, Keith Murphy, Jessie Murphy, and Ricky Mitchell. Honorary pallbearers are Landon Galbreath and Aiden Laughter.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
