HARRISBURG - James Edward White, 90, passed away on Nov. 6, 2025, at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, surrounded by his family.
He was born April 20, 1935, in Greenfield Township and helped his family clear land on Crowley's Ridge as a young man, and continued to live in the same area his entire life, where he attended the small school of Central in his township. After a stint in the Navy, James returned to his home area to continue the family farm. He married Catheryn Lynn in 1959, and together they shared a marriage that lasted 66 years. They had a daughter, Cynthia Ann, and a son, Edward Neil.
Survivors include his wife, Catheryn White; daughter, Cynthia Ratliff; son, Neil White; grandchildren, Shanneil White, Logan Ratliff, and Gavin Ratliff; and great-grandchildren, London White, Lily Ratliff, Laila Ratliff, and Wyatt Ratliff.
Visitation to celebrate his life will be today, from 12 to 2 p.m. at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home Chapel, with a funeral service to follow with Reverend Larry Gibson officiating. Burial will take place in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery following the service.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Logan Ratliff, Gavin Ratliff, Jon Dorsey, Caleb Griffith, Lynn Gray, and Bobby Parsley.
Lasting memorials can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
