CARDWELL - Paula Eugenia "Jeanne" Peel, age 86, of Cardwell, Mo., passed from this life Sunday, May 11, 2025, at the NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro. Daughter of the late Paul and Gladys Lambert Summitt, she was born March 15, 1939, in Cardwell, Mo.
She was a lifelong Cardwell resident and was a 1956 graduate of Cardwell High School. She married Nelson Cupp on July 10, 1958. After his death, she married Bob Peel on June 7, 1974. After high school, Jeanne attended Freed Hardeman College for one semester before returning home to the family farm. In her early 50's she attended Crowley's Ridge College and Arkansas State University, where she graduated with a degree in Special Education. She taught 6th grade at Crowley's Ridge Academy, Special Education at Buffalo Island Central, and speech at Southland C-9 Schools.
Jeanne was a faithful member of the Church of Christ at Antioch in Cardwell, Mo. She had a rich, full life as a farm wife, mother, grandmother, owner of Jeanne's Women's Apparel, Bible class teacher, and school teacher. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and spending time with her sons and grandchildren, of whom she was extremely proud. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Nelson Cupp and Bob Peel, and her siblings, Mary Jo Fry and Jesse Summitt.
Survivors include five sons, Cliff Cupp (Kay) of Cardwell, Mo., Craig Cupp (Michelle) of Desha, Gary Cupp (Christy) of Paragould, Stormy Peel (Marti) of Monette, and Andy Peel of Cardwell, Mo.; one brother, Bob Summitt of Canton, Texas; 10 grandchildren, Jentri Duke (John) of Gulfport, Miss., Andrea Craig (Jason) of Harrodsburg, Ky., Tori McKinnie (Nick) of Cardwell, Mo., Shea Moore (Josh) of Brookland, Hannah Cupp of Batesville, Aubrey Marshall (Slader) of Little Rock, Chandler Cupp (Abby) of Paragould, Leigh Meredith Chandler (TJ) of Senath, Mo., Lauren Peel and Grady Peel both of Monette; eight great-grandchildren, John Henry Duke, Luke Moore, Audrey Moore, Abby Moore, Juneau Marshall, Wilder Marshall, Kane Chandler, and Maren Mae Chandler. Two sisters-in-law, Gail Summitt and Wanda Cupp McMinn. Jeanne also leaves many nieces, nephews, and her beloved church family and friends.
Funeral service will be today at 3 p.m. at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Leachville, officiated by Brother David Flanrey. Burial will follow in the Cardwell Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers will be Rick Fry, Chris McMinn, Chandler Cupp, Grady Peel, Doyle Summitt, and John Duke. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Josh Moore, Jason Craig, Slader Marshall, TJ Chandler, and Nick McKinnie. The family will receive visitors today from 1 p.m. until service times at the funeral home.
