Margie Heflin Obituary

JONESBORO - Margie Ann Heflin, 92, of Jonesboro, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Aug. 16, 2024, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro. Margie was born April 18, 1932, and grew up in Bay. She lived most of her adult life in Jonesboro.

She was married to her high-school sweetheart, Eugene "Sonny" Heflin, from Trumann. They were secretly married for a year in high school before revealing the wonderful news to their families.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sonny, her mother, Rosa Lee Phillips, her father, Glenn, brothers, Bill and Junior, and son, Gary.

Margie was always a hard worker. She had a successful career in banking and sales of furniture and real estate. She was a regular volunteer at the Second Home Shoppe (supporting the Family Crisis Center) well after she retired.

One of Margie's passions was dancing. She was very good and attended senior dances three to five nights per week in Jonesboro and the surrounding area. She kept dancing into her 90s.

Another passion was painting. She was skilled at watercolor, acrylics and oil. Her goal more recently was to paint a picture for every one of her loved ones.

She was a very sharp card player at Canasta. She played weekly in a several-hour game that took precedence over any other activities.

Margie was a strong believer in one God and his son, Jesus. She was a longtime member of Central Baptist Church and always went to brunch with her regular crew after "early church." She never wavered about what lay ahead for her.

She was a great cook. Thanksgiving stuffing and banana bread were two of her many specialties.

Margie was well-known for her great sense of humor. She kept family and friends in stitches. Margie was loved by everyone and never met a stranger. She was always thinking of others.

As we mourn the loss of Margie, we also celebrate the beautiful life she led and the countless memories she created. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of her family and wonderful group of friends. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Margie is survived by many who love her, including her daughter, Gail Newcom; son, Mike and his wife Joan; grandchildren, Doug Sagley (Lisa) and Stan Sagley, Spencer Heflin, Grant Heflin (Kate) and Libby Swearingen (Reid); stepgrandchildren, Sara Fay Egan (Merrick), Bethany Peters Stooksberry snd Grace Peters; nieces, Rita White, Ann Freeman and Janet Houchin; and five great-grandchildren.

In honor of Margie's life, a graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Nettleton Cemetery in Jonesboro. All other services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made to Central Baptist Church in Jonesboro, the Family Crisis Center or the charity of your choice.
