JONESBORO - Jesse Murl Smith 87, of Jonesboro, passed away Friday, Oct. 22, 2021, peacefully at his home surrounded by family.

He was born May 23, 1934, in Dardanelle to Sam and Gladys Smith. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War and was a graduate of Arkansas State University and Memphis State University Law School.

An entrepreneur with many business interests, he was a CEO of Wendy's of the South and of ABC Real Estate Brokerage.

Murl was a trustee of William's Baptist College and a member of Walnut Street Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.

He enjoyed teaching Sunday school and established the widows special needs fund.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Sharon Smith of the home; two sons, Brad Smith (Betsy) of Jonesboro and Mark Smith of Fayetteville; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Burns (Alex) of Nashville, Tenn.; and one grandson, William Smith of Jonesboro.

A public visitation will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. Friday at Walnut Street Baptist Church in Jonesboro with a celebration service at 4 p.m.

The family requests no flowers, but donations may be made to the Walnut Street Baptist Widows Special Needs Funds.

Murl was a pillar of strength for his family and friends and a true Christian warrior in good times and bad. Murl will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him - and there were many! We take comfort knowing that we will see him again. Prayers and comfort for his immediate family and all who mourn his passing.
