PARAGOULD - Nancy Horne peacefully passed away on Nov. 16, 2025, at the age of 94, in her hometown of Paragould. Born on Oct. 1, 1931, in the same close-knit community she cherished throughout her life, Nancy's journey was one of devotion, artistry, and unwavering faith.
Nancy's early years were spent under the nurturing care of her mother, Stella (Blackford) Horne, who preceded her in death. She was a treasured sibling to her late sister, Mary Alice Walts, and a doting aunt to her niece, Anne Patterson, and long-term companion Martin Shaffer of West Virginia, and her late nephew, Tony Walts. Nancy's life was further enriched by the companionship of her dear friend and caretaker, Robin Jurczyk of Paragould, and her loving dog, Scarlett, who remained a steadfast source of joy and comfort.
An alumna of the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Nancy earned her bachelor's degree with a passion for knowledge that would illuminate her path as an esteemed school teacher for many years. Her dedication to education and her students was evident in every lesson she crafted and every life she touched.
Nancy's interests were as colorful and diverse as her personality. She attended East Side Baptist Church, where she embraced the community and the peace it brought to her soul. She relished the experience of dining at various restaurants, always eager to taste new flavors and share meals with friends and family. Her artistic talent was undeniable, as she poured her heart into painting and creating art that reflected the beauty she saw in the world.
The home that witnessed Nancy's growth from a spirited child to an adult held countless memories. It was a testament to her love for her roots and the simple pleasures of life, like the leisurely drives around Paragould that she so enjoyed. Celebrating her 94th birthday, Nancy was surrounded by loved ones and her favorite coconut cake, a sweet note in the symphony of her life.
