JONESBORO - Sandra Ann Harrington Smith Clark passed away Monday, Jan. 15, 2024, at the age of 84. Affectionally known as Sissy, to those close to her. She was born on Jan. 14, 1940, to Eugene "Gene" and Geraldine "Jere" Harrington in Jonesboro.
Sandra graduated from Jonesboro High School in 1958. She attended Arkansas State University where she pledged Phi Mu fraternity. She graduated with a bachelor's in education. She went back to school in her 40s and graduated with her master's in special education. She was a member of Phi Delta Kappa education sorority.
She taught school for over 38 years, 26 of those years as a beloved resource teacher at Trumann High School in Trumann and two years in the Paragould Public Schools.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 23 years, William R. "Bill" Clark, aunts, uncles, and the father of her children, Frank Smith.
She is survived by her children, Brian (Beverly) Smith of Minden, La., Suzanne (Eric) Howlett of Bono, Karen (Henry) Gray of Crossville, Tenn., Michael (Kerry) Smith of McLeansville, N.C., Cathy (Frank) Darvis of Jonesboro, and Bill Clark Jr., Bob Clark and Brad (Becca) Clark, all of Jonesboro.
She also leaves behind her sister, Eugenia "Genie" Hopkins of Piggott and her brother, Jack (Becky) Harrington of Jonesboro.
She loved her grandchildren, Jeffery (Meagan) Broadaway, Lisa (Jazzmine) Broadaway, Jessica (Hunter) Richmond, Neely Gray, Elizabeth Smith, Mary Catherine Gray, Megan (Tyler) Vaughn, Quaid Darvis, Connor Clark, Cameron Clark, Caden Clark, Catherine "Cat" Darvis and William Smith.
She leaves behind eight great-grandchildren and much-loved nieces, nephews and cousins.
Sandra had a servant's heart. She taught Sunday school for over 40 years, volunteered at the Care Center at First Baptist in Jonesboro, and was a reading buddy for the Jonesboro Public Schools.
She was a 15-year breast cancer survivor and a member of Christ Circle.
She was a member of and attended First Baptist Church of Jonesboro.
The service will be at Emerson's Funeral Home, 1629 E. Nettleton Ave. in Jonesboro on Saturday. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. with a service following. Interment will be immediately following the service in Jonesboro Memorial Park.
The service will be officiated by Pastor Tim Stewart from First Baptist Church and Chaplin Amanda McCall.
Pallbearers will be Quaid Darvis, Connor Clark, Cameron Clark, Tyler Vaughn, Jeff Broadway and John Harrington.
In lieu of flowers or plants, please consider a thoughtful donation to First Baptist Church of Jonesboro, the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House at St. Bernards, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
