WYNNE - Sylvia Ann Warren McDaniel, 68, of Wynne, passed away Friday, Nov. 1, 2024, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro. Born on Feb. 14, 1956, in Wynne, Sylvia was the daughter of Johnny Scott Sr. and Rosie Marie Warren. She had resided in Wynne for the past 27 years, having spent most of her life in Vanndale.
Sylvia was a cherished member of Caldwell Missionary Baptist Church, where she found joy in singing with the choir.
Sylvia confessed a hope in Christ and was baptized at a young age under the leadership of the late Rev. Oscar Miller. She was a 1974 graduate of Cross County High School. She proudly made history as the first Black cheerleader at Cross County High School in Cherry Valley.
Sylvia moved to Denver, Colo., after high school then moved back to Arkansas to marry the late Author Lee McDaniel with whom she had two children. She attended East. Arkansas Community College for two years where she received her nursing license and worked part time as a secretary while on campus; she studied to receive a certificate in medical administration.
Known for her creativity, Sylvia was passionate about arts and crafts and even held a patent for her invention, Bedazzled Candles. She also had a gift for words and loved writing poetry.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her brothers, Carzel Warren, Johnny Scott Warren II and Bobby Paul Warren; and her sisters, Paula Kay Warren, Lutricia Ann Richardson and Betty May Warren.
She is survived by her son, Ahmad Rashad McDaniel Sr. of Wynne; her daughter, Lakenya Anderson (Wesley) of Jonesboro; her brothers, Paul Warren, Jerry Warren (Gloria) and Rodney Deon Warren, all of Denver; her sisters, Mackie Faye Jackson of Denver and Barbara Ann James, of Aurora, Colo.; eight beloved grandchildren, Octavia L. Dawson, Kerra D. McDaniel, Wesley B. Anderson Jr., Malik C. Anderson, Ahmad R. McDaniel Jr., Demarion McDaniel, Shundrea McDaniel and Malasia McDaniel; and two great-grandchildren, Paisley Z. Morton of Mansfield, Texas, and one of North Little Rock.
Visitation will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Caldwell Missionary Baptist Church in Wynne, officiated by the Rev. Ray Peals Sr. Burial will follow in Warren Cemetery in Vanndale.
Pallbearers will include Malik Corde Anderson, Wesley Bernard Anderson Jr., Ahmad Rashad McDaniel Jr., Demarion McDaniel, Mathius McDaniel and Makye McDaniel.
Honorary pallbearers will be Christopher Dawson, James Morton, Rodrick McDaniel and the Rev. Wesley Anderson Sr.
