Lavonne Duncan Obituary

Lavonne Duncan, 88, of Sterling, Colorado died February 14, 2023. Viewing will be held from 1 - 6 p.m., Thursday, March 2 at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 3 at The Rock Assembly of God Church, 415 Beattie Street, Sterling, Colorado with Pastor Gina Graves presiding. Burial will follow the service at Riverside Cemetery, Sterling, Colorado. Lavonne was born to A. E. Hobson and Nora (Stockham) Hobson on the family farm in Messix, Colorado. The family moved to Sterling, Colorado when she was very young. Lavonne attended and graduated from Sterling schools. As a young woman Lavonne was an usher at the movie theatre, worked as a library assistant at Sterling Library, and worked as a sales clerk for Montgomery Ward. Later as the children were getting older, she worked for Pepsi Company serving samples of new products in local grocery stores. She cleaned and dressed ducks, geese, and pheasants for many local hunters. She was a bookkeeper for the family business C & B Electric Co., worked at the Logan County extension office, judged many area County fairs in the food division, and judged food at several Colorado State Fairs. She was district Girl Scout cookie chairman for many years, was a 4-H leader, Cub Scout den Mother, was a fund-raising chairman for arthritis, red cross and a volunteer for diabetes awareness. But most of all she was a fabulous wife, homemaker, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. Lavonne married her husband (Jess Duncan, Jr.) just four months out of high school, in 2022 they celebrated their 70th anniversary. Lavonne & Jess have four children; Dr. Dennis (wife Dr. Wendy) Duncan from California, Timothy (wife Gwen) Duncan of Sterling, CO, Judy (husband Mike) Kauffman of Hillrose, CO and Peggy (husband Dr. Warren) Barr from California. She has four grandchildren, Jared Duncan (wife Ariana and their 6 children with one on the way) from Kentucky, Malcolm Duncan from California, Deann Duncan Nicolaus (husband Tracy and their 4 children) from Nebraska, and Liam Duncan from California. In addition to all mentioned above Lavonne is survived by her brother, Keith (wife Elizabeth) Hobson of Sterling, CO and many nieces and nephews. Church and family were both very important to Lavonne. Lavonne enjoyed her garden, flower garden, sewing, embroidery, food preserving, photography and cooking. She was awarded Homemaker of the Year for most of the 1980s at the Logan County fair. She was an avid collector of dog figurines, Pillsbury Doughboy items, Campbell Soup items, coffee mugs, salt & pepper shakers and antiques. In lieu of flowers please consider donating in Lavonne's name to The Rock Assembly of God Church, Sterling, Colorado, or The Salvation Army c/o Chaner-Reager Funeral Home, PO Box 1046, Sterling, CO 80751. Chaney-Reager Funeral Home has been entrusted with Lavonne's service.
