Nita Wyatt Obituary

Nita Louise Wyatt, 81, of Sterling, passed away Dec. 29, 2013, in Sterling. Memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 2013, at Christ United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ed Bigler III officiating. Services will conclude at the church.

Nita was born to Ella Walker on Aug. 8, 1932, in Mountain Home, Ark. As a child, she and her mother, Ella, moved to Kansas City, Mo. Her mother then married Clarence Eads from Oswego, Kan., where Ella and Nita moved to. She graduated from Oswego Kansas High School where she was very active in her school, community and church.

After graduating from high school she went to St. Luke's nursing school in Kansas City, Mo. While going to school she worked for the Missouri State Board of Health. She developed an eye disease, where the doctor she had to rest her eyes and not go back to school for a semester.

She met Neal Guy Wyatt in Parsons, Ark., at a Montgomery Ward's Store where Neal was working. They were married Nov. 19, 1952. They resided in Powell, Wyo., for some time. The family later moved to Cushing, Okla., where Nita was a dental assistant. In 1967, the Wyatt family moved to Sterling. In 1969, Neal and Nita built and operated Sterling Skate Center on North 10th Avenue. Nita worked for Valley Dehigh for a number of years as office manager until the sale of that company. She then worked for Sonnenberg Feed lots until her former boss bought Atwood Alfalfa, where she then went to work as office manager. She was there until the company sold out to Atlantic Richfield Oil Company, where she was then transferred to El Centro, Calif., in 1980 as office manager. She then was transferred to Long Beach, Calif., where she was office manager, and then Accounts Payable supervisor at Four Corners Pipeline, which was also part of Atlantic Richfield. In 1994, Nita took an early retirement and moved back to Sterling. In 2005, Nita and Debi started HOPE?Agency of the High Plains working with developmentally disabled adults. In 2012 they closed the company.

Nita was a life member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She sang in the Windsong Chorus since 1971, along with singing with other Sweet Adeline choruses in California. She was accountant for the first committee for the Relay For Life, helping to get it started in Logan County for three years. She sang in the church choir and was a member of several committees for Christ United Methodist Church, where she was a member since 1967. She was active with the Democrat Party, where up until her passing she has served as treasurer. In 2002, she and Neal were chosen as Democrat of the Year.

She is survived by her daughter, Debra Wyatt of Sterling; a son, Randall Wyatt and wife Kimberly of San Leandro, Calif.; sister-in-law, Virginia Norman; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Neal Guy Wyatt.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Nita Wyatt fund so the family can distribute towards Nita's wishes.
