Patsy Sue Turner Schutz

Patsy Sue Turner Schutz, 62, died Dec. 17, 2011, at home in Raton, N.M. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 23, at the First Presbyterian Church of Akron. Inurnment will be held at Akron Cemetery.

She was born May 22, 1949, to Robert and Sarah Emma Brooks Turner in Shelbyville, Ky. She graduated Shelby County High school in 1967.

She joined the U.S. Navy in 1967 as a WAVE and graduated from the Hospital Corps School at Great Lakes, Ill. She was honorably discharged in July 1971, with the rank HM3 hospital man third class.

On Sept. 3, 1971, she married David Norman Schutz in Louisville, Ky. They moved from Maryland to Colorado in 1973.

Mrs. Schutz received her registered nurse degree at Morgan Community College in 1993 and. She worked at Sterling Regional MedCenter, Sunset, Washington County Nursing Home, Cedardale Nursing Home. In 1999, she was awarded Colorado's Director of Nursing of the Year.

They moved to New Mexico in 2009, where she worked at Miner's Colfax Medical Center. Mrs. Schutz was voted Nurse of the Year in 2011.

She is survived by her husband, David; daughter, Jenny Sue of Lubbock, Texas; son, Jakob and wife Jennifer of Akron; sister, Helen Haycraft and husband Cecil of Litchfield, Ky.; and little brother, Bobby and wife Debbie, their sons, Dallon and Taylor of Shephardsville, Ky.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Sarah Turner.
