Richard Bartlett Obituary

Richard "Dick" Bartlett, 88, of Sterling passed away Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, in Sterling. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 5, at Peace Lutheran Church with the Rev. Wendy Kalan officiating. Inurnment will be at Riverside Cemetery.

Dick was born Jan. 24, 1925, to William Herman and Merle (Oliver) Bartlett in Seibert. He grew up in Fleming, Atwood and Sterling. He graduated from Atwood High School in 1943.
From 1935 to 1945 he was active in 4-H. In 1945 he represented Logan County at the nation 4-H congress in Chicago. He spent one year on the Red Cross Board. In 1946 he was instrumental with four others in establishing the kids' rodeo at the Logan County Fair. He was the kids' rodeo manager from 1946-1956.
On March 7, 1954, he married Violet Rose Nickel at Peace Lutheran Church in Sterling. They lived in Merino, Wyoming and Cope. In 1975, they moved back to Merino to build their home.
He was a member of Merino IOOF Lodge 464 holding all offices of a subordinate lodge and one year as Deputy Grand master of northeast Colorado. Dick was a 4-H and Boy Scout leader. He enjoyed breaking and training horses, reading and gardening.
He worked for the Road and Bridge Department of Logan County for more than 20 years.
Dick and Vi liked to attend and watch rodeos. They especially liked to dance, their favorite being the waltz.
He is survived by his children, Sandra Passeno and husband Jeff, Rick Bartlett, Hugh Bartlett and wife Jeneen, Lisa Wolever and husband David; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren,
Memorials may be made to Dick Bartlett Memorial or Peace Lutheran Church.
