Arlene Coulter Obituary

Arlene R. Coulter
It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Arlene R. Coulter. Arlene died on November 3, 2025 at Hartford Hospital with her daughter by her side. Arlene was the beloved wife of the late Norman R. Coulter for over seventy years. Arlene was born March 16, 1933, the daughter of the late Andrew McComb and Jessie Wadsworth McComb. She enjoyed a long and fulfilling life in Suffield where she lived her entire life.
Arlene leaves to cherish her memory her loving daughter and caregiver, Deborah Coulter-Fusiek and her husband David Fusiek. Arlene was the proud mother of Roger Coulter of New York. She was the loving grandmother of Kevin Coulter and his wife Darcy of Pennsylvania. Arlene also leaves her beloved granddaughter and caregiver who she cherished, Bethany Fusiek. She also leaves two great grandsons of Pennsylvania.
Arlene was employed by the Suffield Public Schools as a secretary through a long, dedicated career which included time at West Suffield School, Suffield Agriscience Center and Spaulding School. She so enjoyed her interactions with the children whether it be helping them to build a snow fort, administering ice to an injury or her birthday tradition with each child. She was a member of First Church of Christ UCC of Suffield, a former church choir mother and church school teacher. Arlene was a former member of the Suffield Grange. She was an enthusiastic supporter of the 4-H and its activities and fairs.
Family, faith and hard work were important to Arlene. She felt blessed to be an active part of the Coulter Farm. It was quite an honor for Arlene and Norman to be awarded the Connecticut Century Farm Award in 1998 as the farm has been a working family farm since 1877. Along with Norman, Arlene was a strong advocate for agriculture. She and Norman strongly supported the Connecticut Farmland Preservation program. Arlene and Norman sold the development rights on their productive farm. It gave her great pride and satisfaction to see Debbie, David and Bethany continue their legacy with the family farm. Over the years Arlene helped on the farm feeding calves, running farm errands, hosting luncheons for farm tours, milking cows, serving her famous Blueberry Muffins, fresh lemonade and so much more. She was a skilled baker, cook, seamstress, secretary as well as an artist.
Arlene was predeceased by her father-in-law Samuel J. Coulter, and her mother-in-law Abby G. Coulter, (who was as close as a second mother). Three sisters, Ruth McComb Scott, Shirley McComb Coulter, Susan McComb Pettus, and two brothers, Andrew L. McComb and Curtis McComb died before her.
The family wishes to express their gratitude and appreciation to the entire staff of Conklin Building 4th floor for their skilled, compassionate care that they gave Arlene during her last days on this earth. Arlene will be sadly missed, but never forgotten. Countless are the lives that she has touched through her kind, giving and loving nature to make a positive difference in that life whether it had two or four legs. Arlene requests a private service. She also wished to have memorial contributions be made to: Shriners Hospitals https://donate.shrinerschildrens.ora/fundraiser/6818630 instead of flowers to continue her legacy of making a difference for children. Check donations could also be made with the name of the fundraiser, "In Memory of Arlene R. Coulter" clearly noted in the memo line and mailed to Shriners Children's Attn: Shriners Children's, PO Box 947765, Atlanta, GA 30394.
