Betty Flath Obituary

Betty Ann (Despard) Flath
Betty Ann (Despard) Flath, longtime resident of East Hartford, passed away on Friday September 12, 2025, at the Glastonbury Health Center at the age of 91. She was born on July 7, 1934, and was the daughter of William and Olive (Biggs) Despard. She was predeceased by her two older brothers Donald and LeRoy Despard.
Betty graduated from East Hartford High School in 1952. Afterwards she went to work at the Phoenix Insurance Co. in Hartford. Betty married Robert Flath in June of 1953. She later worked at Howard Johnson's in Manchester for many years and later at Century Photo Lab. She was predeceased by her life partner of over 40 years, James Green.
She made Glastonbury Health Center her home in October of 2020 and was very grateful for the care she received, especially from Temisha, Lara, and the entire Recreation department.
Betty is survived by her daughter Karen and her husband Lawrence Hunter and sons Robert and Timothy Flath. She was very proud of her 6 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren and delighted in hearing stories of all their activities. She is also survived by several nieces and dear friend Sue Noel.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 11 a.m. at the D'Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford, CT. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Glastonbury, CT. For online expressions of sympathy to the family, please visit www.desopoeh.com
