Beloved mother, grandmother, daughter, and wife, Clarissa A. Cox-Phelps, 62, of Enfield, passed on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022, surrounded in unconditional love with her husband by her side at St. Francis Hospital after a short illness.
She was born in Middletown, Ohio, on Aug. 7, 1959, and had an adventurous spirit, where she traveled and lived throughout the United States. The simplest pleasures in life brought Clarissa great joy. She enjoyed sitting on her back porch with her husband, Brian, watching the different birds in her garden and her dog, Ruby, chasing the squirrels. She took great pride in her garden, which had an assortment of fruits, vegetables, and all sorts of gorgeous flowers. She was always welcoming and loved preparing and hosting meals for her guests and loved ones. One of her talents was cooking amazing dishes. Her family will always remember her glazed ham for family holidays and summer apple potato salad for family cookouts. She cherished shopping for her grandchildren and was overjoyed to be a grandmother. She enjoyed walking through flower gardens and taking in the beauty of life. She loved relaxing on vacations with her husband and dog at Lake Harmony in the Poconos. Cape Cod was a place that she and her husband honeymooned and frequently visited, where they enjoyed visiting First Encounter Beach, Orleans, and Nauset Beach to watch the sunsets and cherish the special love they shared together. "Just us" was their phrase they would say to each other with the utmost love and affection. She was very passionate about the arts and her favorite pastime would be to collect vintage art, antiques, and 3-D design. She was an accomplished potter, even teaching pottery, as well as running her own business. Her favorite artists were her sons, Dustin and Noah. She also enjoyed many movies, which led her to own an ice cream and video shop in Somers. Clarissa was a lover of all music, but especially jazz, Motown and the blues. She and her husband Brian were always known as the lovebirds at their weekly date to the Blues Jam where they would be seen slow dancing together. Clarissa enjoyed attending concerts at Infinity Hall in both Norfolk and Hartford. Even more, she absolutely loved going to see bands with family and friends at Sonny's place. She loved to be around all dogs and had a passion for rescuing animals. Over the past three years, her dog, Ruby, was her greatest companion. She will always be proud of her 18-year-old goldfish named Goldie.
She leaves her dearest husband, Brian J. Phelps; her sons, Dustin Culp and his wife, Kaylah, Noah Mashiak; her father, Raymond Cox and his wife, Marty; her siblings, Mark Cox, Robin Neal and Dawn Wilkin; her mother Joyce Walton; her brother, Chuck Crone and his wife, Carol; her grandchildren, Dillon and Kelly; her step children, Ashley, Alissa, Allison and Benjamin Phelps; and her beloved dog, Ruby.
