David Logan Obituary

David J. Logan
On August 16, 2023, our beloved husband and father, David J. Logan, 80, passed away, surrounded by family.
Dave was born March 3, 1943 to David N. Logan and Clara (DeCarli) of Ellington. He is survived by his wife, Monika. He leaves his son Timo, his daughter Patricia with husband Frank, his son Michael with wife Kylie, and families. Furthermore, he leaves his brother-in-law, James Macvarish, his nieces Valerie, Carrie with husband Mike, Debbie with husband Greg, his niece Lisa, and families.
He was predeceased by his parents, and by his sisters, Sharon Macvarish and Maureen Pollanski.
Dave graduated from Ellington High School, where he was an outstanding basketball player. He went on to play at a selected travel team in South America.
In 1964, Dave graduated from the Military Police at Fort Gordon in Georgia. Dave served his country honorably as an MP in the National Guard, and in the army within the United States and abroad. He played on the army baseball team.
After his honorable discharge, he worked for his father at Logan Brothers, of Windsor Locks, as an Office Manager. He later established his own business, Ireland Oil Company, serving Vernon customers for 40 years with plumbing, heating, and A/C installations. He retired in 2020.
Dave loved sports. He played on a Bavarian soccer team in Germany as a goalie and also on numerous local softball teams. He was a huge fan of the New York Yankees, the UCONN Huskies basketball teams, and Bavarian soccer team FC Bayern Munich.
He was an enthusiastic music fan and loved playing the guitar, his go-to song being "La Bamba". He enjoyed challenging others to name tunes and artists, and fancied discussing various music trivia.
Dave felt very connected to Ireland, always displaying - what he would call - his "Irish humor". Sadly, his wish to visit the Emerald Isle stays unfulfilled.
He was dearly loved and will be sorely missed.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at Ellington Center Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Our Companions Animal Rescue & Sanctuary, P.O. Box 956, Manchester, CT 06045, www.ourcompanions.org .
