David Scott Obituary

David B. (Dave) Scott passed away on March 14, 2013. He was 83 years old. He is survived his beloved wife, Myra J. Scott, of 60 years; and two wonderful daughters, Judith H. Scott and Valerie L. Scott, both of Connecticut; two nieces, Fran and Hope Saidel of Skokie, Ill.; and two cousins, Charlotte and Allen Trester of Lincolnwood, Ill.

Dave graduated Purdue University, Class of 1951, as a metallurgical engineer. He worked in the Chicago area, first for American Can Co. and then for Revere Copper and Brass. In 1957, Dave and Myra moved to Pittsburgh, Pa. He worked for Westinghouse, where he earned four patents. He attended graduate school at the University of Pittsburgh and received his master's in metallurgical engineering. Dave and Myra came to Connecticut in 1969. Dave worked for Combustion Engineering in Windsor and later for ABB until he retired in the early '90s. While there, he was the co-author of more than 30 papers and government reports. Dave was a lover of barbershop music and was a member of the bass section of the Manchester Silk City Chorus for 30 years. During those same years, he was also a member of the performance chorale of Temple Beth El in West Hartford. He performed twice with that group at Lincoln Center as well as several local concerts. He was substitute cantor at Temple Kol Chavarimin Glastonbury and Temple Beth Hillel in South Windsor. He celebrated his own bar mitzvah in 2001 at Temple Sinai in Newington, where he was also a member of the choir. When Dave retired, he took up woodworking as a hobby. He made several beautiful fine wood pieces for both Temple Beth Hillel and Temple Sinai, including a portable Ark for Temple Sinai. He was a member of the Woodworkers Guild of Connecticut and a cherished member of the mall walker group, known to them as "the answer guy." He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

I will fondly remember his smiling face on the many trips I went on with Dave and his wife thru the South Windsor CC. Always had a funny joke to share.. and sometimes sang a chorus of a song..
He will be missed...
My condolences to the Scott family.
