Edith Shapiro Obituary

Edith M. Shapiro
Edith M. Shapiro, 100, sadly passed away peacefully on October 31, 2025. In life and in death, she was surrounded by the family she loved so deeply.
Born on May 7, 1925, in Methuen, Massachusetts, to Albert and Alice (Stork) Hartwig, Edi attended Tufts University, where she met the love of her life, Elias "Spud" Shapiro. Together they settled in Windsor Locks, enjoying 50 amazing years together, building a home filled with warmth, laughter, and love.
A beloved middle school math teacher, she brought creativity and fun to her classroom. After 15 years of teaching, she happily retired to enjoy more time on the golf course. Edi lived her life to the fullest in a vibrant, adventurous, and fun-loving way. She traveled the world, was an avid golfer who won a club championship at Copper Hill, got a hole-in-one at Minnechaug, and regularly bowled 200 point games at Bradley Bowl. Along with Spud, Edi won Bridge championships, rode the waves at Misquamicut, and walked the shoreline of the beautiful East Dennis Beach. She had a special talent for making every gathering more lively and fun - often sparked by a Manhattan or two!
Most of all, Edi cherished her family. She was there for each of us anytime, always providing love, support, laughs, and fun. She never missed a moment – whether it was Manhattan Mondays, pool basketball, or cheering sports games from the sidelines (though according to some umpires, sometimes a little too enthusiastically!).
Edi will be so deeply missed. She was the heart of our family and so very loved by all of us. Her grandsons especially know how blessed they were to have such a special Grams/Mimi so present and involved throughout their lives. She will forever be in the center of their endless happy memories.
Edi was predeceased by Spud in 2000. She leaves her son Steven Shapiro and his wife Susan, her daughter Nancy O'Brien and her husband Peter, her grandchildren Andrew and his wife Meghan, Scott, Spencer, and her sweet great-granddaughter Avery, as well as friends and extended family.
