Elaine M. (Stein) Mejia, 78, of Somers and Enfield, entered into eternal life, after a lengthy illness, on Monday, December 16, 2024. She was the beloved wife of 25 years to Martin Mejia. Elaine was born on April 28, 1946, in London, England, the daughter of the late Edward W. and Rose A. (Filby) Stein. She had resided in Somers for the past 17 years and in Enfield before that. Elaine was a graduate of Enfield High School Class of 1964. Elaine was employed for many years with Aetna Insurance Co. retiring as a Care Management Associate. In her leisure time she enjoyed gardening, collecting antiques, playing cards and board games, traveling and volunteering for the Little Sisters of the Poor at St. Joseph's Residence. Elaine was a longtime parishioner of St. Patrick's Church, Enfield.
In addition to her husband Martin, she is survived by a son Michael Sealander and wife Maria of S. Windsor, two grandchildren Christopher and Alyssa Sealander of S. Windsor, a sister Diane Stein of MA, a sisters-in-law Dora M. Mejia of Enfield and Elia Mejia of Mexico City, Mexico, brothers-in-law Aristeo de Orta of Enfield and Manuel Mejia of Puebla, Mexico, nephews Enrique Soto Mejia and Rafael de Orta both of Enfield, and a special cousin Lynne Goss of Somers and other cousins and several dear friends.
Relatives and friends may gather with her family during calling hours on Sunday, December 22, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Browne Memorial Chapels, Enfield. A Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of her life will take place on Monday, December 23, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. in St. Patrick Church, Pearl & High Streets in the Thompsonville section of Enfield. Interment will follow in the Enfield Street Cemetery, Enfield. Memorial donations in her memory may be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor, 1365 Enfield Street, Enfield, CT 06082.
