Elizabeth "Betty" Moore, 85, of Windsor Locks, beloved wife of Charles Moore, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 21, 2025.
Born in Natick, MA, she was the daughter of the late Richards Grant Vedeler and Evelyn (Irvine) Vedeler. Betty will be remembered for her compassion, strong spirit, and dedication to humanitarian causes and fighting for the underdog.
Betty was a crusader for equal rights and a tireless advocate for children. She fostered numerous children over the years. She took in families from war ravaged countries and always gave individuals in need a place to stay. She was an advocate for children with special needs and used patterning therapies to help a brain damaged child.
She enjoyed the camaraderie of her Senior Center arts class and actively volunteered at soup kitchens, meals-on-wheels, literary programs and prisoner education programs until prevented by declining health.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who found her greatest joy in caring for others and spending time surrounded by those she loved.
She is survived by her husband, Charles; her brother, Donald Vedeler; her children, Lisa Majewski, Tom, Julie Sales, Steve, Lora Fowler, Cara Nadeau, Daisy Aiken, Douglas, Katie and Matthew; as well as many cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Bob Vedeler; her sons, Daniel and Akeem; and daughter, Judy Ayala.
Friends and family are gathering to celebrate Betty's life from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 1, 2025, in the Rec Room, Montgomery Mill Apartments, 25 Canal Bank Rd., Windsor Locks, CT. Park in the Canal trail parking lot, enter lower level of the back of the building.
