Georgia M. (Gibbs) Steele, a native of Greenport, NY and longtime resident of Vernon, CT, passed away on November 28, 2025. She was 78.
She was preceded in death by her parents Frederick and Zelma (Macomber) Gibbs; brothers – Frederick Gibbs II, James Gibbs, and William Gibbs; and her sister Zelma (Gibbs) Harsmanka.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 59 years Charles Steele; her son Anthony Steele; her granddaughter Shanna Steele, and her fiancé Joshua Maciolek; her great-grandchildren – Charles and Mason Maciolek; her brother Richard Gibbs; her sister-in-law Nancy Schuiten and husband Robert; her cherished niece Lana Camerota; and many great-nieces and nephews.
Georgia spent many years working as a payroll secretary at Amerbelle Corporation, and owned Gibbs & Steele Service Co. with her husband, Charles. She loved the ocean and was a proud collector of Harbor Lights Lighthouses and all things nautical. She enjoyed many summer vacations in Long Island spending time with her brothers and their families. She was steady in her faith and was a proud member of Rockville Baptist Church for over 30 years where she loved volunteering in the nursery. Her hobbies included reading, watching old movies, and attending Broadway musicals.
Georgia will be laid to rest in Valley Falls Cemetery in Vernon, CT in a private ceremony. Friends and family are invited to a public memorial service to be held on December 13th, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Rockville Baptist Church, 825 Hartford Turnpike, Vernon, CT 06066.
