Helen (Swist) Aquilio, 96, of Enfield, entered into peacefully into eternal life, on Tuesday, June 4, 2024. She was the beloved wife of 71 years to the late Nazzareno (Nazz) Aquilio. Helen was born on February 2, 1928, in the Thompsonville section of Enfield, CT, the daughter of the late Frank and Katherine (Kedzior) Swist. She was a lifelong resident of Enfield. Helen attended A.D. Higgins School, was a graduate of Enfield H.S. and furthered her education at Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, Springfield, MA. Helen was employed as an RN with the Town of Enfield School System for 27 years. She was member of the Nursing Alumni Association and longtime communicant of St. Adalbert Church, Enfield. Helen enjoyed time spent at their home on Cape Cod and being with family and friends.
Helen is survived by her two sons: Robert Aquilio and wife Jane of Enfield, and Raymond Aquilio of Holland, MA, her four grandchildren: Katie, Michael, Lisa & Matt, and four great-grandchildren: Preston, Maddie, Aiden and Olivia. Along with nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by an infant sister Stacia, and two sisters, Jane Swist and Stella Dynia. Helen's family would like to extend special thanks to her longtime caregivers Mary and Nancy, as well as the nurses and staff at the Suffield House and Fr. Anthony Bruno.
Services for Helen will take place with calling hours on Monday, June 10, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Browne Memorial Chapels, Enfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. in St. Patick's Church (St. Jeanne Jugan Parish, Enfield). Interment will follow in St. Adalbert Cemetery, Enfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial donation may be made to the Felician Sister's Retirement Fund, 1315 Enfield Street, Enfield, CT 06082.
