Henry Lawrence Gauruder

Henry Lawrence Gauruder, born June 18, 1923, in Glastonbury, joined his wife of 67 years, Ruth Catherine Kenton, in their heavenly home.

He was known as Hank by his friends and Quibbie by his nine children and their spouses: Lawrence and Regina Gauruder, Elizabeth Gauruder Bisesi, William and Mavis Gauruder, Catherine Gauruder, John and Jana Gauruder, Christine and Rodney Chaney, Eric and Claudette Gauruder, Patrick and Channing Gauruder, and Jennifer Tierinni. His 31 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren called him Grampy.

Henry proudly served in the United States Army Air Force in the 10th Air Force in the 89th Airdrome Squadron in China, Burma, and India. He retired after 21 years of faithful service to the Manchester Police Department and 20 years in the United States Postal Service. Henry loved model trains and building model airplanes. He built hundreds of model airplanes, the largest with a wing span of 6 feet. He was a licensed pilot for 30 years. He served as an executive secretary in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and spent many years as a worker in the Washington, D.C., and Jordan River, Utah, temples. Henry was a dedicated husband, active father, and doting grandfather. His tender heart and wonderful sense of humor endeared him to all who knew him. He will be missed on this earth.

Family and friends may call at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 W. Center St., Manchester, on Thursday, April 21, 2011, from 4 to 7 p.m.

A funeral will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 30 Woodside St., Manchester, on Friday, April 22, 2011, at 10 a.m. Burial will be 8 a.m. Saturday, April 23, in East Cemetery, Manchester. Reception to follow church service.
