Joan Kurtz Obituary

Joan A. (Foss) Kurtz, 77, of Suffield, beloved wife of 56 years of Richard W. Kurtz, entered into eternal peace Wednesday, April 28 (on her birthday), 2010, at her home, surrounded by her family.

The daughter of the late Alton and Lottie (Burgett) Foss, Joan was born in Hartford. She was a former resident of Manchester and had been a Suffield resident since 1985. A devoted wife and mother, her greatest joy was the time spent with her family. She was an artist and also enjoyed the outdoors and connecting with nature, as she was an avid bird watcher and collector of sea shells and unique rocks. Joan was fond of the trips she took with her family in their RV traveling to beautiful places to camp, fish, and pan for gold.

Besides her husband, Richard, Joan leaves four children, Donna L. Turnbull and her husband, Gary, of Feeding Hills, Mass., Cheryl L. Spurr and her husband, Richard, of Huddleston, Va., Steven R. Kurtz of Suffield, and Brenda Lemieux and her husband, Michael, of Stafford; two brothers, Richard Foss and his wife, Shirley, of West Suffield and Robert Foss and his wife, Gail, of Florida; a sister, Janet Morey of Florida; two grandchildren, Derrick Turnbull and his wife, Nicole, of Feeding Hills, Mass., and Katie Coffin and her husband, Jason, of Agawam, Mass.; a great-grandson, Tyler Coffin; and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves her mother-in-law, Marjorie Kurtz (100 years) of the Arbors in Manchester. She was predeceased by a brother, Sonny Foss, and a sister, Gloria Foss.

Joan's family will receive relatives and friends Sunday, May 2, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield, followed by a funeral service at 4 p.m. In honor of Joan, her daughter, Brenda Lemieux, will give the eulogy for the service. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

Donations in Joan's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 538 Preston Ave., Meriden, CT 06450-1004, and Home and Community Health Services Hospice Program, P.O. Box 1199, Enfield, CT 06083-1199.
